ABSTRACT.- The article presents the results of a series of experiments which
point to the sufficiently high catalytic activity of yttrium oxide in hydrogenationit
and Isomerization reactions. Hydrocarbons investigated included ethylene,7
propylenej divinyl lacetylene, and 2-methyl-pentene. Temperature-s--va-'Hed
fio-m110-320C, the hydrogen/ hydrocarbon ratio from 3:1 to 12:1, the space velo-

city from 144 to 576 hr , and the total degree of conversion from 70 to 100%.
A necessary condition for the appearance of the catalytic activity of yttrium oxide
Is Its activation with hydrogen. A sufficiently conatant activity of the yttrium

oxide is attained at a given time and activation rate with hydrogen, with a compar-
atively small amount of hydrocarbon In the reaction mixture. The work indicates
that this catalyst is very subject to poisoning by traces of moisture and oxygen.

TITLE: Unloading of Wet Ore From Mine Cars (Razgruzka mokroy rudy
iz vagonetok)

ABSTRACT: The apatite mine imeni Kirov uses haulage with electric
locomotives and mine cars which unload automatically through
the side wall in motion, (when a -tilting-roll moves along
an unloading curve and the car tilts through an angle of
40 to 420 to the horizontal level). The car capacity -
2.65 cu m. In winter time, the ore froze to the body of
the cars and a considerable part remained in the car after
tilting. In 1954, the acting Chief Mechanic of the mine,
A.I. Gunlko, proposed applying a vibrator during the un-
loading of the cars. This vibrator weighs 270 kg and is
installed on the upper horizontal section of the unloading
curves; it causes vibrations with an amplitude of 2.5 am-
The experience of its 3 years of use has shown that this
device ensures fast and complete unloading of the condens-
ed wet ore and ore frozen to the walls. The unloading of
Card 112 mine cars is performed now by only one or two workers.

Abstract : An opinion is expressed, based on more detailed calculations of the
probability of the breakaway of an electron from an atom by a strong
electric field, that the tunnel-effect machanism should be considerable
in the breakdovn of insulating crystals. The probability of the
ionization of the atom in an electric field is estimated from cal-
culations employing the usual equation in a one-dimensional field

ABSTRACT: The authors study the crystallization of selenium layers at moderate tem-
eratures (20-1000) with particular regard to the kinetics of cristallization from the

strate side.4 The specimens were prepared by vaporization of selenium (99, 992) in
a vacuum of 10 mm. Hg on aluminum, glass. mica and NaC1 substrates held at a constant
!temperature during vaporization. The rate of deposition was 1 u/min in all cases. Thel
@elenium layers were B-10 p in thickness. A "Polmi A" polarization microscope was used
for studying the crystallization rocesses in conjunction with a UEKV-100 electron
nicroscope. -Polystyrene 1gjcguexAQVas used to separate the selenium layers from the
opaque substrate. It was found that crystallization always begins on the substrate
side in the given temperature range and is practically Independent of the nature of the@-

erature deposition of selenium layers or heat treatment of layers deposited at lower
emperatures may be used to form a double semiconductor-dielectric layer with improved
erographic properties. These layers should be stable at room temperature since the

Abstract A classification of bicomponent liquid systems with limited
mutual solubility is exposed. Equilibriums in vapor-licluid
and vapor-two liquids systems at bit, voriations of temperatures

tion of a hetcroazeoti-ope into a homoazeotrope is observed A

mental and theoretical studies is indicated for determining con-

;range, were measured in the molten state at temperatures from 300 to 7000C by a cow-@,.,

ments of the Hall effect, i. e. the current carriers are electrons. It was found
,that the absolute thermoelectromotive force and Hall constant in molten tin and gal-
ilium are nearly constant in a wide temperature range. Mercury shows scme anomaliesi
,in both parameters as functions of temperature. The experimental data on the Hall
,effect for gallium-tin alloys agree satisfactorily with theoretical predictions on I
;the basis of the electron gas model. Slight deviations from the theoretical valueal

80, 96, 980and 100.,Vfeat conductivity measurements were taken by the heat wave method.

thin-walled crucibles made from stainless steel. Each crucible was placed in a furnac(
with two heating units surrounding the specimen coaxially. The chromel-alumel thermo-
couples were fastened to the interior of the specimen, one at the center, and the othei
at a given distance from the center. Periodic disconnection or the innermost heating
element produced radial heat waves. Fluctuation amplitude did not exceed 1*C. Ex-
pressions are given for calculating the heat conductivity coefficients. The resultv
show that these coefficients decrease as temperature is increased. The thermoelectric

ABSTRACT: The thermoelectric properties of liquid indiuur-bismuth alloys has been in-
vestigated at 240, 300, and 400 C. Alloy specimens were obtained from 000-grade indfim
and 99.992-pure bismuth. The thermoelectric pover was determined in argon atmosphere
in relation to an alumel electrode with a te;nperatyre gradient of about 50C. On the
basis of the obtained data the curves of compositi@m dependence of the differential
thermoelectric power for indium-@bismuth alloys were plotted (see Fig. 1). The maxima

composition. All investigated alloys have a negative thermoelectric power whose
absolute magnitude does not exceed -4.5 vv/C. Investigations of the conductivity
mechanism indicated that indium-bismuth alloys in either the solid or liquid state

the findings ofx-ray analysis (Sharrach, P. S., et al. J. Chem. Phys., 32, 241, 1960) which
Show that regions with purc-component structure exist in the molten cutectic Pb-Bi alloy. It
is csUtbl ished that for most of these metals absolute thermo-c. m. f. is independent of tempo-
raturc (in the 200-8000C range). Mieso findings were used to construct the thermoelectric
series of the molten metals at the temperature T m, + 100OC: Sb, Zn, Cd, Sn, Ga, Bi, Pb,
wiLh the corresponding series for these metals in Mid state being: Sb, Cd, Zn, Pb, Sn, Bi.
It is worth noting that the difference in the variation in thormo-e. m. f. between the extromo
members of tho series for the solid metals is -120 11v/deg whereas for the molten metals it
is -10 pv/dcg. This fact appears to indicate that, when in molten state, the metals differ from
