TITLE. Method of Forecasting the Final Sagging of Structure Beds
(Metod prognoza kone'chnykh osadok osnovaniy sooruzheniy)
I-'F'.R!QDICAL: Tr. Moak. Energ. in-ta, 1956, Nr 19, pp 240-272
ABSTRACT: A combination sagging calculation method is proposed that can be
termed a method of apex points; it reduces a nonhomogeneous basis to a homo-
.geneous one. The method allows for mutual effects of individual structures and
their parts on sagging, and also allows for nonhomogeneity of the bed asso-
c i,-i.ted with its geological structure and with stresses therein. Schemes, de-
:.;ptions of installations, and methods for determining mechanical properties
of. soils and stress characteristics of structure beds are presented, as well as
,i method of calculating final bed sagging under a construction.

TEX'f: The paper describes the laboratory development and industrial testing
of a new heat-treatment procedure for AL19 parts of complex configuration. The
procedure maintains a good stability of the geometric dimensions of the part
throughout the course of the heat treatment. The laboratory investigation consisted
essentially of the quenching of AL19 castings in water at differing temperatures (T).
The cast specimens had a variable- section annular shape. They were quenched in a
horizontal attitude. Artificial (accelerated) aging was performed. The specimens
were placed into a furnace at 3000C, whereupon the T was raised to 535 50. After
9-hour soaking, the T was raised to 545 50, with additional 7-hr holding. After
quenching in water at varying T up to 960, some of the specimens were aged at 1750
for 3 hrs. It was found that: (1) For cross-sectional thicknesses up to 75x0'0 mm,

the AL19 alloy is practically insensitive to a reduction in the rate of cooling upon
quench. The mechanical properties of the castings in the freshly quenched state,
tested at room T, were practically invariable with an increase in water T from 45
to 96' , who reas in aged specimens tensile z;trength and relative 01011gUtiOn we re
somewhat reduced thereby. The mechanical properties at Z50 0G (short-term tests)
were practically invariable with an increase in quench-water T up to 960 and were
also independent of the type of heat treatment-, (2) the total corrosional stability of
the AL19 alloy quenched in water is practically the same with quench-water T of 45
z.,,d 960, both in the freshly quenched state and after artificially accelerated aging;
i'3) the quenching of odd-shaped large castings in boiling water produces so insigni-
--cant a warping of the castings, that virtually no straightening is required after
_--~at treatment. The adoption of quenching in boiliz-6g water for large odd-shaped
castings has provided a cardinal solution of the problem of warpage, has reduced
the amount of labor required, and has increased the quality of parts made of AL19
alloy; (4) q-,;enching in boiling water does not require any additional major equip-
ment and does not alter in any way the procedural schedule of the production line.
Quenchir.,-, in boiling water can be done with the utilization of ordinary vats and re-
quires only a simple addition of equipment in which the water is heated by means of
live steam. There are 2 figures, 4 tables, and 1 Russian-language Soviet reference.

ABSTRACT: During its phase transformations steel displays higher plasticity, and this effwt
my be exploited to reduce warping, particularly in intricate large-sized work parts of high-i-
-strength stainless steel (0. U-0. 16% C, :5 1. 0% Mn, 14-15. 5% Cr, 4-5% Ni,'2.3-2.8% Mo,

martensite, residual austenito and isolated carbides, and which tends to shrink 0. 5% when

of work parts made of steels of this kind can be reduced by means of: use of fastening attacri-

TITLE: Steel for surface-hardened parts. Class 40, No. 177083
SOURCE: Byulleten' izobretenly i tovarnvkh znakov, no. 24, 1965, 74
TOPIC TAGS: steel, surface hardened steel, mangnnese containing steel, silicon con-
taining steel, chromium containing steel, shallow hardenable steel
ABSTRACT: This Author Certificate introduces a steel for surface-hardened parts con-
taining 0.4-1.2% carbon and alloyed with manganesesilicon, and chromium. To obtain
steel with a specified hardenability, one of three alloying elements Is added In a
specified amount and the content of the other two is limited. For example, in steel
containing 0.3-1.4% manganese, the chromium and silicon contents are limited to 0.152
and 0.17%, respectively. Steel with 0.3-1.41 silicon should contain 0.152 chromium
and 0.20% manganese, and steel with 0.3-1.8% chromium should contain 0.20% manga-
nese and 0.17-0.27% silicon. [AZI

TITLE: Frequency Limits of a Self-Exciting Relaxation Oscillator During
Frequency Division
PERIODICAL: Tr. Leningr. in-ta aviats. priborostr., 1958, Nr 18, pp 125 - 130
ABSTRACT: The author derives an equation for the zone boundaries of the syn-
chronization diagram in the presence of an arbitrary voltage shape
on the accumulator of the relaxation oscillator (the driving-voltage
period). It is shown that when such an oscillator is used in the
capacity of a frequency divider, the maximum permissible (within the
bounds of the synchronization region) frequency variations in a train
of short synchronizing pulses do not depend, for a given amplitude of
these pulses, on the shape of the time-charging voltage; furthermore,
the coefficient of division k is entirely determined. The only way to
increase k in the case of a given magnitude of instability of the syn-
chronizing-pulse repetition rate is to increase the stability of the
free oscillation frequency of the relaxation oscillator.
