TITLE: On the Application of the Composition of Lead Isoto es
in the Search for Uranium Ores
PERIODICAL: Atomnaya energiya, 1960, vol. 91 No, 1. pp. 21 - 26
TEXT: The published anomalies in the isotope composition of the different
types of lead from USSR, Germany, and USA are analyzed. In particular, the
types of lead from the Siberian Plateau studied by A. P. Vinogradov,
G. G. Moor, S. I. Zykov, and L. S. Tarasov (Refs. 3 and 4), and those
from North Caucasia, Ukraine, and Central Asia studied by A. P. Vinogradov,
A. 1. Tugarinov. and S. 1. Zykov (Refs. 5-6) have been thoroughly checked.
As a result of the entire analysis the authors believe that the
occurrence of lead with a very high content of Pb207 and Pb206 is caused
by the following geological processes: (1) rapid accumulation of young
deposits due to an intensive erosion of the old uranium deposits. (2)
Assimilation of the mag-ma and deep granitization of uranium-containing

rocks long before the magmatization, (3) Hydrothermal metamorphosis of
the uranium-containing ore body. (4) Hypergenesis in the oxidation zone
of uranium deposito. These processes take place where lead occurs
together with radioactive minerals. Thus, the ratio of Pb207 : Pb206
can be used for uranium prospecting. There are 2 figures, 6 tables, and

This brief article gives a description, photographs, and a circuit
diaCram (control panel) of the U-38 "anemorhumbometerp" which measures
autcQatically the average vind velocity from one to 40 meters per
second at intervals of 2 or 10 minutes with an accuracy of plus-minus
0-5-0-05 meters per second, and the direction of the wind with an ac-
curacy of plus-minus 5 degrees.

PERIODICAL: Tr. N.-i. in-ta gidrometeorol. priborostr., 1957, Nr 5. pp 98-106
ABSTRACT- The instrument is intended for recording the wind-velocity horizontal
components up to 90-100 m/sec with an error of 6% and time constant of 0. 2
sec. A locked cup-type anemometer comprising 21 hemispheres of 40-mm
diameter and with an arm 80-mm, long serves as a primary element. An
elastic member to which the primary element is secured comprises an 8-mm
diameter pipe with a 0. 5-nun thick wall made from D16-T aluminum alloy.
The pipe twisting angle is measured by 4 w1re-type primary elements pasted to
the pipe and connected to a bridge circuit. A type EPO--5 oscillograph serves
as a recorder. The distance between the primary element and recorder can be
as long as several hundred meters. The electrical circuit of the instrument is
presented, as are the results of its testing in a wind tunnel.

t.BSTRACT: By the construction of this apparatus a problem was solved,
which was set by the requirement for the measurement of
velocity-fluctuations of the horizontal wind component from
2 to 100 m/sec. From publications dealing with the same
subject was perceived that for this purpose anemometers are
suited best with braked cups. For the transformation of the
mechanical deformations into electrical values resistance-
.-elements were chosen. This method is based upon the elastic
deformations, which are suffered by resistance wires, which
are glued to the surface of a flexible element. The named
element brakes the cups. As a consequence of this the
electrical resistance of the mentioned wires is changed and
thus also the amperage of the current, flowing through the
latter. Because of the dependence which exists between the
wind pressure on the braked cups and the amperage, the wind
velocity can be ascertained. By means of experiments was
Card 1/3 found that resistance wire of constantan with a I'Venilex"-

theoretical bases, as the choice of the electrical scheme,
of the bridge schemes, the various constructive variants, the
optimum arm lenCth, shape and number of the hemispherical
cups, the recording device, and others are discussed. The
problem of the application of a braked cup-syetem is not
yet solved completely, as the method itself must be built
upon a number of assumptions and not yet expleined aero-
dynamical coefficients. For this purpose the anemometer was
tested in the wind tunnel. The investigations showed that
in thq case of a maximum registration error of 1,~S' of the
measured value, the period of the eigen vibrations of the
system of the recording galvanometer must be by about B-10
times lower than the period of the recorded fluctuations of
the wind velocity. The device (figures 1,2) is described in
detail and its operation is explained. It' is protected
against coneelation. As a recording instrument a series-
-oscillograph EPO-5 (fic. 3) is used. The apparatus
successfully was used by the expedition of the S~ate Oceano-
graphical Institute (Gosudarstvennyy okeanograficheskiy
institut) for the rocordinC of the structure of the strong

PERIODICAL: Tr. N.-i. in-ta gidrometeorol. priborostr., 1959, No. 3, PP. 11-22
TEXT: A brief review on anemometers is given. The imperfections of the
devices with cup-shaped anemometer receivers are noted, and the application of air
screws with constant pitch is substantiated. The design is described of a unit
developed for measuring the velocity and direction of the wind, which has a 3-blade
screw with constant pitch of 600 and the blade span of 190 mm; the screw is con-
nected with an electric remote automatically synchronizing magnesyn-transmission
with indicating or recording devices. The results of experimental aerodynamical in-
-,-estigations of' this unit are presented, which corroborate the high operation qual-
ities of the device. There are 10 figures and 3 references. R.N.F.

meteorologic elements on set dates. The measurement ranges and ac-
CLaracies are as follows: 1) atmospheric pressure in the range 950
1050 mb with-a0grecision of,+ 2 mb; 2) airotem erature in the range
from +40 to 6 with a pre lision of + 1.5 ; 3~ the averar wind
velocity during 10 min in the range from 2 to 45 m/sec-,' 4 wind di-
rection for 16 points of the compass with a precision of + 1 point;
5) amount of precipitation during 6 hra in the range 0 - UO mm with
-a precidion of + 0.5 mm; 6) the presence of sunshine at the moment

of the station's.operation. The ARMS-N radiosignals are sent on two
waves (day and night) respectively by two transmitters, working on
one antenna. Data on the program are transmitted for 105 sec each
time the station is switched on. The group of signals include: the
call sign; measured values of all six parameters, as several let-
ters (from one to four) for each parameter; and the ending signal.
The power supply for all systems is achieved from alkaiine batter-
ies, having a voltage of 27 v and a capacity of 100 amp/hr. Th-
unit is recharged from a serial wind-generator with a power of
100 W. Z-Abstracter's note: Complete translation.-7

TEXT: The author describes the design of the cup anemorhumbometer with
vane and teletransmission of reading by means of magnesyns. He presents its
technical data and test results. The device makes it possible to measure th~.
mean wind velocity for 10 minutes of up to 40 m/sec, the short-term speed of t-,p
to 60 m./sec and the wind direction over -he 3600 range. The sensitivity is 0,-
m/sec. The measuring error of the mean wind velocity is 1.25%. There ara 5
figures and 6 references.

Abstract: The outbreak of infectious encephalcmyelitis in
foxes caused an extensive epizocty amon6 the animals,
especially among the young ones in the age group of
1-3 months. Vectors and distributors of the infection
were probably adult foxes who have recovered from the
disease. A virus was extracted frcm one of the sick

foxes after his death. By means nf serial subarachnoidal
inoculations of the extracted virus to dogs (15 to 46 day old
puppies), it was possible to adapt it to their nervous
system. After 6 subinoculationB, infection and death were
caused by the inoculations in 100 percent of the puppies.
The clinical and pathologic-anatomical characteristics of
the process described above correspond to the characteris-
tics of infectious hepatitis in dogs which have been des-
cribed by Rubart.
