The system used in 'the sun-oriented oz nometer pe itted it to be trained on the sun with an aeeural cy and' of *5'. The ozonom ter had tw independent amplifier channels, for X1 = 3100 A and', 12~ X2 = 3300 R; signali fromeach channel were mechanically switched to a recorder. Monochromatic filte5s were use to increase measurement accuracy. The cesium-anti-! t i a spectral ensitivity I 3n- imony phototubes hadl imit of-u6500 Rs which eliminated the effect oVthe seconq maximum of filter transmission at A = 7200 R. The advantag e. iof the screen-type zonomete3- d veloped by the authors is that it needs no orienta-, ition system. It wa found that a 51 nonperpendicularity of the screen to the opti- ati C,,d .1/2 L 279-2-66 ;ACCESSION NR: AP50 1355 !cal axis and a 20* eviation o1 the ozonometer from-the-vertical had no affect on !the ratios of sign intensitiEs 11/12- In tests conducted at Karadag (Crimea) and[ lElbrus, direct and 3cattered*rEdiation was measured almost simultaneously in the same ozonometer at various va3ues of Zo. P, el 7 ORG: none TITLE: Ionization-mec~anical detictor for ionizing radiation SOURCE: Atomnaya energiya, v. 20, no. ~,' 1966, 442-444' TOPIC TAGS: ionizatioa detector, ionizing radiation, capacitor ABSTRACT: The detector is based (n an electromechanical diode invented by the author (Author's Certificates nos. 155o4S and 168805), wherein a small charged body is made to oscillate between tie electrodts of a capacitor and exchange charge alternately between the capacitor ~')lates (Fig. 1). The body employed is a sphere of polystyrene (type FS-5B) coated with graphite to make its surface conducting. Relations are es- tablished between the electrode vc1tage, interelectrode distance, diameter of the body,' and the weight of the body. App]Jcation of ionizing radiation reduces the natural frequency of the oscillations and can be used to determine the number of ionizing particles. The detect)r was calibrated against y radiation from cobalt at a dose intensity from zero to 380 r/sec and calibration curves for this range are presented. At dose intensities ab e 50 r/sec the relation between the oscillation frequency and the dose intensity is parabolic. It is proposed that the ionization-mechanical detector can solve som, speci 1 p blems in the measurement of large radiation fluxes of different types, esleciallya ZTenergy radiation. Though the capilltry tube in the lid of the vessel permits the air to escape slowly, it produces a sort of"air cushion"in the upper -,easel. The measuring principle of the viscocimeter consists in the f ct that the device is dipped so far into the licuid to be investigated as is possible without varying the water level and in order that the depth to which the device is dipped into the liquid may be read off from the scale cf the tube connecting the two vessels. By the viscos- ity of the liquid under investigation the velocity with which the liquid flows -nto the vessel is determined and thus also the delth to whicl the viscosimeter is dipped into the liquid. As the cross section of the connActing socket, into which the liquid under inve.,tigation penetrates, is large it is possible to mealure also l1quids which are not homogeneous. There is 1 fiau e.
