ABSTRACT: Since the paraffins which are oxidiz6d in the production of syn-
thetic fatty acids also contain isoparaffinic hydrocarbons, the authors studied
the oxidation of a utator alkylate consisting entirely of hydrocarbons which
do not form complexes with carbakide. Both the entire motor alkylate and the
200-300C fraction were first oxidized under laboratory conditions on a glass
column at 117 or JZ5C, and then an the SZhK experimental apparatus at 120C with

ABSTRACT' The presence of tangible nitrogen compounds in the medium always
leads to a considerable reduction of the nibrogen~fixing activity
of the nodule barteria of leguminous roots. In the case of the plants
being fully supplied with bound nitrogen, fixing of the nitrogen of
the air is--stopped entirel;T. It is not only that the nodule bacteria
would not be abla to do so, but they-are not even able to ppoduce.

doses and of the importance of the radical properties of nodule bac-

types of the same leguminous plant. Blue lupines Nr. 174 and
Nr. 374 as well as the yellow lupine Nr. 4645 and 3 tYPes of lupine
nodule bacteria IS-375, LS-39o and LZh_25 were used for the test.
A-fter the test had been carried out no bound forms of nitrogen re-
mained in the culture vessels. As the inoculated plants bloomed before
the control was carried out, the results obtained by Whitting d Fred
with peas growing on a field were not confirmed, The said authors
had found that the period of ripening grew longer in the case of
inoculated plants, In the case of the inoculated lupine plants small
nodules rere found at the time of harvest,, the dry weight of which is
shown in t_-bla 1. '1"t-Ae for all ty-pes of 1-apines was attained
by breeding on 0.1 of the nitroveri standard of the I-ellriegel nur-
turing mixture (table 2). Harefrom it rray be seen that although
inoculation hact in all cases increased the crop considerably, the
results obtainod differed according to t1je type of lupine and of the
nodule bacteria. In the case of a full nitrogen standard in the soil
the influence exercised by inoculation was insiE;nificant, but also in
this case noticeable differences were foiind to exist. The best result

the yellow.1upine Nr, 4645. A decrease of the harvest yield was..
howevers observed i~ the case of the same type of bacteria on the
blue lupine Yr. 374. This type of lupine attained far better results
on a 0,5 standard of nitrogen on the Hellrieeel nurture mixture. The
species Lzh.6~25 increased its harvest yield by 4295'016 j whereaa the
harvest increase in the case of other types: of 1upines did not exceed
16. - 24% with these bacterias Table 3 shows the percentage of ni-
trogen eontained by the individual parts of the plant. it also changes
considerably-according to the conditions of nitrogen supply.like the
nitro-en-ifix--ng activity of individual- types of bacteria which is
shown in table 4. The increase of the dosage of assimilatable nitrogen
reduced the effect of inoculation practically to zero. In contrast
to published data, the inoculated plants developed better and passed
more rapidly through the corresponding phases than plants that were
not inoculated. The data given show that there indded exists a certain
specifity among individual types of nodule bacteria of Jupines accor-
ding to indiridual types of the respective leguminous. state. A diffe-
