Report of 5 cases ofsoft tissue turnours, which, on account of their typical localization
and tissue structure, are interpreted as a clinico-pathulogical entity. All the
5
turnours were localized in the upper third of the thigh, at the anterior aspect, under
the inguinal region, urider the fascia lata. The turnours probably originated from
the fascia of the long head of the quadriceps muscle. All the 5 tuinours occurred in
female 3atients. They all showed an essentially identical basic pattern: embryonic,
mesencg Mal connective tissue with cavitations. Benign and malignant varieties

Abstract: [Author's English summary modified] The functions of the skin which
are developed in the course of phylovenesis are reviewed,followed by a
derivation of the pathophysiological changes which accompany extensive
skin injuries. The paramount role of the skin in the maintenance of homeo-
stasis is emphasized and disturbances in homeostasis secondary to severe
injuries of the skin are discussed. In conclusion, a brief review is given
of burns involving the skin.and basic concepts of modem therapy based
on the pathopbysiological changes. No references.

Abstract: [Author's Hungarian summary modified] The most frequent changes
which may lead to the death of these patients are surzarized. With the ex-
clusion of injuries incompatible with life, these are: a) ventilation dis-
turbances, b) increased intracranial pressure. The correct course of action
in these cases as well as some diagnostic guidelines are discussed. In
summary, X-ray studies are routine in the case of skull injury although t
they are not urgent in the majority of the cases since they do not decide
the fate of the patient. Not the radiological evidence of fracture but dis-
turbances in consciousness and neurological symptoms are decisive as surgical
indications. X-rays may be helpful for the selection of the site for tre-
phination if they can be taken without loss of time or extensive movement
of the injured. The intrathecal administration of antibiotics can be a fatal
mistake as it may lead to status epilepticus. Posttraumatic abdominal com-
plaints may be caused by an acute ulcer of acute cholecystitis which occurs
not infequently after skull injuries. The aim of the present article was to
provide guidance for the avoidance of the most frequently occurring thera-
