In 1947-1953, 459 cases of increased post -vaccination reactions were observed.
In all, the percentage of increased reactions varies from 0.7 to 0.276. The causes
t~)f the increased post -vaccination reactions were analysed, consideration being
paid to the following factors: living conditions; exposure to tuberculous infection;
past diseases record. In 378 cases the enlarged lymph nodes were aspirated and
the material examined. In 27.4176 of the cases acid-fast bacilli were found. The
majority of the increased reactions (5601a) were found in children with a weak tuber-
culin allergy. The increased post - vaccination reactions developed within 3 to 4
months or more after oral vaccination, and in 1.5 month after i.c. vaccination.
The treatment of the increased reactions varied considerably. In 54016 of the cases
the lesions healed completely; in 15% it was necessary to continue treatment for
more than 15 months. Sixty-seven cases of the latter group developed increased
reactions I yr. after the vaccination. The majority of them are not healed and It-
able to frequent relapses. The investigations seem necessary in order to find out
whether the lesions are not caused by the bovine type of the bacilli. No other cause
but the kind of vaccine could be established: out of 2,185 children vaccinated orally
in 1955 with Iyophilized vaccine, only one case of increased postvaccination re-
action was found. Of 20.742 children vaccinated 1. c. 3 cases of increased reactions
were found. (XV. 7,17)
