Meteorological considerations regarding sudden cardiac death -N6peg6szs6giIgY 1956,
37/9 (240-244) Graphs 3 Tables 2
Statistics on 1,000 cases of cardiac death tend to show that these cases are seen
more frequently and earber in males, in whom the acute condition is due to changes
in the coronary vessels in 60%. The largest number occur during the winter. By a
personal modification of Schefling's method a significant prefrontal and postfrontal
increase in fatal issues was demonstrated. No difference was found between invasive
and superimposed fronts. (XVIII, 17)

In guinea-pigs the reactive changes due to different i. p. administered powders
(Merck'a quartz, dead rock from Kom16 collieries containing 7756 quartz, quartz-
free brown coal trom TatabAnya. and talcum) were studied. 75 mg. of the I to 2 p.
fractions suspended in distilled water were used and the development of the fibro-
genic reactions at different stages observed. The quartz -containing dead rock from
Koml6 elicited fibrogenic reactions similar to those of quartz. Talcum had a
milder fibrogenic effect, and the quartz-free brown coal caused only foreign body
tissue reactions. RomhAnyi - Pdcs

The i.p. test developed by Miller and Sayers (Publ. 111th Rep. (Wash.) 1933. 50.
1619) incited the authors to carry out 6tudies on the fibrogenetic action of various
industrial dusts. 104 guinea-pigs were tested. Chemicallv pure quartz and dead
rock dust containing 77~. quartz, quartz-free brown-Loal dust. and talc were in-
jected i.p. Quartz-free'~rown-coal dust elicited merely a foreign body connective
tissue response. Talc, dead rock and quartz produced more or less similar react-
ions (appearance of reticular fibres, from the 7th to the 10th day; collagenization
from the 14th day on), the changes in experiments with talc being somewhat retard-
ed. The type*of fibrosis ii.duced by talc seems to be different.

ABSTRACT: To expedite and to cut the cost of earth darns built on a fluid SOH, 0:1e
of the dams was built by a method of squeezing the water out of the -;beat soLl by
the weight of the dam proper. Dam observations for 9 years have revealed no
essential sagging or deformationsIand its generally good condition permits
--ecornmending this method for further use. A formula is presented for
calculating the external load due to the imbankment weight, as well as
recornmendatio:-.9 on how the work is to be done.

I
I'lie subject of the spontaneous regression of imallilgnant tumors
was discussed on the basis of references in the literature and the ex-
periences Of the author. The latter included a case involving the spon-
0
taneous re ression of a
kidney Lumor. This case was described
elsewhere in nore detail (cf. TAKATS, Laszlo, Dr., and C2APO, Zs., flin
press"); in it the spontaneous rearession occurred followin
ex?lora-
tive laparoromy and biopsy. It was indicated that additional research
is required to explore the factors involved in the spontaneous rec-res-
sion of mzlignanc tumors. 29 references., including 5 German, 2 Hunga-
