were made to reproduce the experiments of BERM ct al., i.c. to render
rats susceptible to human hepatitis by the addition of 0.3 p,,;r cent of

this diet (group I) as well as rats kept on a normal. di--t (group III)
were administered matfrial obtained from patients suffering from acute.

death. Serum samples were tested for hemagglutination and transmission of

Abstract: In order to elucidate the dependence of the strength
of the wool on the yolk in fine-vool and semi-fine-
wool sheep, saq*es were taken of the vool of the
Merino of the Stavropol', of the Groznyy, of the
Tsigmyy and of the Uncola breed from their right
shoulder blade. It was demonstrated that the wool

of the LincoIns contains the sisallest quantity of yolk
(8.6 - 11.0%) and yie]As higher ammiit of pure fibers
(66.5%). The highest a=unt of yolk was found in the
Stavropol' and Groznyy Merincs (correspondingly 16.1-
24.7 and 21-5 - 26.7%). The wool of the sigarys
(4-99 g.) exhibits the wall at strength. It is to
be noted that there is a direct interdependence be-
tween the strength and the coupactness of the wool.

Abstract: [kuthors' Hungarian summary] The experiences gained with 440
comparative radiD-Clinical examinations of mammary tumors, involving 388
patients, are reported. Based on the analysis of 140 of these cases which
were also subjected to histological control, it was found that the pre-
operative diagnosis of breast tumors is improved by about 20 per cent by
mammography. In the presence of a coinciding radiological and clinical
diagnosis (more than half of all cases), the authors' diagnostic reliability
was 96 per cent. In their opinion, mammography is a relatively easily-
learned procedure and - when the correct technical conditions are used
it provides considerable aid to the clinical examination. On the basis of
3 cases of non-palpable tumor (histologically: 2 carcinoma, 1 fibro-
adenoma) and of literature data, it is concluded that the method appears
to be particularly useful for screening examinations. The indications and
limitations of the examination are discussed. 5 Eastern European, 28

Abstract: A statistical survey is given of the results of the
surgical removal of the breast In patients who had survived the
operation for ten years or longer. Patients were classified
into two groups: a) those in whome radical surgery was followed
by postoperative irradiation, and b) those in whome a slight
preoperative irradiation was followed by radical surgery, and
then by postoperative Irradiatlon. Of the 210 patients belong-
ing to group a) 139 (66%) were symptom-free after 10 years,
while of the-172 patients belonging to group b) 50 (27%) were
symptom-free. Pulmonary and bone metastasis occurred in a
total of 90 patients. No references.

Abstract: [English article) Since both fatty acids and thyroid hormones are
frequently used as hypocholesterolaemic agents, the authors investigated the
effect of thyroid hormone administration on rats maintained on a synthetic
diet deficient in essential fatty acids. The deficiency reduced fer-
tility in both sexes; fetuses were atsorbed in some cases and the females
failed to lactate. Triiodothyronine, in doses of 1.0 jkg /rat/day markedly
enhanced the essential fatty acid deficiency; thyosine, in doses of 10
4g /rat/day showed no such effect. The symptom disappeared upon treat-
ment with highly unsaturated fatty acids in doses of 0.1 ml /rat/day. 26

Title Upon The Peptization of Lignin.

Abstract: The peptization of ligain (I) preparations obtained from r7e
straw, fir saw dust and peat by extraction with alkall in
ancohol and with Moxane was studied. All the samples of I,
as well as humic acid, are peptizided correspondingly to the
Ostwald-Buzag's rule of precipitation. The dependence of the
amount of I that has passed into the sol on the amount of I
in the precipitate is expressed by a curve, which is typical
for the dissolution peptization and which has a naximum with
a following horizontal part. The content of metoxy-groups
is in the solution less than in the precipitate; the equiva-
