TEXT: A simple manometric apparatus was used with an adjustable
limb of mercury to enable the vapour:liquid ratio to be kept
constant. The system was tested with carbon totrachloridb
and agreed to 2% with the tables of Kaye and Laby over the range
21 to 640c. For gasoline and T-1, the vapouriliquid ratio was
held at 4:1,and data obtained for the fuel and for the three cuts
into which it was fractionated'; the data cover 20 to 1500C
(gasoline) and'20 to 230% (T-1). For T-5, two ratios were used,
2:1 and 4:1, and data cover 20 to 2700C. Latent heats of
vaporization were obtained from the Clausius-Clapsyron relation, ve

Abstract In a 57-year-old wonan who suffered pains in the stomach
region, vomiting, general weakness and who had tarry
stool, a tumor with dimensions 8 x 6 cm in the Lliddle
part of the stomach was discovered roentgenolo6lcally.
2/3 of the stonach was resected. thder histologic exami-
nation of the tumor, mucous granulation tissue was dis-
covered which consisted of polymorphic cells, eosinophi-
les and single binuclear cells. Isolated lyriphograiiulo-
mtosi6 was diagnosed. 2 years after surgery, the patieLt
is clinically well.

tween the microscopic structuric of the carcinoma and its radiological picture. In
cervical cancer the it te7raphic picture confirmed the diagnosis of carcinoma in

ABSTRACT: The influence of metals and antifriction coatings on the
corrosive activity of motor oils used in modern engines was inves-
tigated. Differences in the corrosion sensitilrity of lead, copper
and indium towards oxidation products of oils was demonstrated.
It was established that lead is more sensitive to corrosion by
oil oxidation products than indium and copper. A relationship
between the catalytic influence of copper on oxidation of oils
and the corrosive attack 6? oils on lead and lead and indium
containing antifriction bearing coatings was established. It was
shown that anti-corrosive additives by forming on the surface of
metals protective films neutralise the catalytic influence of metal
on the oxidation of oil and thus protect the metal from corrosion
by the oil oxidation products. There are 3 figures, 5 tables and
4 references, 3 of which are Russian and 1 Bnglish.

ABSTRACT: After a brief review of views expressed in the literature
on the action of detergent additives on the operating proper-
ties of oils, the results of an investigation of the influence
of an additive TsIATIM-339 on changes in the chemical compo-
sition and operazing properties of oils are given. The tests
of oils were carried out on Diesel single-cylinder engines
OKS and tAT-9-3 as well as on a full-scale engine AA2p-204. Oil
MC-20 from GroznenBkoy crude and experimental samples of
Diesel oil from TuymazinBkaya Devonian crude with and without
the above additive were tested. By adsorption separation on
silicagel the characteristics hydrocarbon group compositions
of oils before and after tests were determined. The experi-
mental results are given in Tables 1-4. Conclusions: alkyl-
phenolic additives of the typeTSIATIM-339 belong to a group
of chemically-active substances, reacting with products formed

On the Mechanism of the Washing Action of Alkylphenolic Additives
of alkylphenolic additives is due to: a) neutralisation of
acid products by exchange reaction with the formation of oil
soluble organic barium salts; b) an increase in elective
solubility of asphalteno-resinous substances in oil in the
presence of separated-in-the-exchange reaction alkylphenols.
The correct concentration of alkylphenolic additives in oils
should be selected for each individual case in relation to the
operating conditions of engines for which the oil is intended.
There are 4 tables and 9 references, 6 of which are Russian
and 3 English.

TEXT: A descri ption is given of the synthesis of the additives Vnii -370#
Vnii NF-3711 and Vnii NP-372, which are the oil concentrates (-.,5-,. in
spindle oil No. 2) of the Cap Ba, and Li salt, respectivelyp of.the
-condensation product of alkyl phenol with CH 0. The phenol is alkylated
with polymer distillate in the presence of ihenol sulfonio acid as a
catalyst, which is previously prepared by treating phenol with H so

additive Vnii NP-371 (viscosity 17-80 centistokes/1000C) contains 7-9%
of Ba. Prolonged treatment with Ba(OH)2.8"20 at 1450C doubles the Ba

effect of the alkyl phenol:CH20 ratio and of come other conditions on the!

The frequency and the intensity of calcification of the rib cartilage in 1923 coal-
miners (1423 with silicosis and silico-tb and 500 healthy) were investigated. It
was more frequent and intensive among workers with silicosis and silico-tb. In
this group extensive to moderate calcifications were prevalent even in middle-aged
subjects (41-50 yr.), causing rigidity of the thorax much earlier than in healthy
workers. No direct influence of the rib cartilage calcifications on the development
of silicosis was established; nevertheless, the possibility of a biochemical action
of silica on the development and the intensity of calcifications is emphasized.

ABSTRACT: The article briefly reviews the available data and gives the
results of the e3fperimental work on this subject by the author's
institute. Surfacing die blocks for hot and cold punch presses
by electrodes Nu -71' resulted in the following approximate com-
position of the facing metal: 2.33 % Cr, 0.24 % Mnt 0-57 % C,
0.18 % Si, 0.82 % Mo. The facing was always sound and the slag
was easily removed. Some authors (1). (4), consider steel "45tv
as the beat suitable material for die blanks. Experiments show-
ed that this steel gives good results in production of two-
layer cold punching dies, but is not permissible for hot dies
because of insufficient hardness. Steel 1140X'' and rim steel
make die blanks of higher hardness. Experience had shown that
the previously practiced groove depth of 4-6 mm is insufficient,
