are also considered. The moments of the linear and quadratic functionals on these
spaces are calculated and the results are used for the approximate calculation of the
intVgrals of a functional of a special type (for example functionals F(fox(t)dt) and
F(f~*2(t)dt) by integrating a segment of the Taylor series of the function F(u).' Al-
though there exist exact formulas for the calculation of these integrals., their use
entails great fundamental and technical difficultiesp and this is the motivation for
the derivation of the approximate equations. Orig. art. has, 16 formulas.

Data concerning small burns are presented. Protection for feet and forearms must
be used, especially on the most exposed posts. For first-aid as well as during the
following surgical treatment, the use of dyes is probably the simplest method. This
method of local treatment used for a period of one year gave the least complications.

Abstract: Results of research conducted in 1949 on Installation
No 4 at the Kiev branch of the Central Scientific and
Research Institite of the Sugar Industry (TsINS) are
presented. This research dealt with heat transfer dur-
ing the boiling in pipes of water (at atmospheric pres-
sure) and sugar solution (at pressures of 0.4-1 kg/cm2
and concentrations of 35 to 70 percent), with natural cir-
culation. The experimental apparatus is schematically

Abstract: On the basis of an analysis of the data obtained, it is
stated that the relative quantities of the liquid and
vapor phase for a given pipe are determined by the mag-
c'
nitude of the heat flow and the rate of circulation.
Data are also presented on the intensity of heat trans-
fer In the region of active boiling, which Is divided
into a zone with film-plug structure (up tocP~~70-80 per-
cent), where the heat transfer conditions are close to
the conditions in a large volume of boiling fluid, and
into a zone with an annular flow structure (for values
of1f from 70-80 percent to 99 percent), where the max-
imum heat transfer intensity was obtained at a fully
defined value of cP . It is pointed out that the optimum
working conditions in a boiling-tube occurs when the co-
efficient of heat transfer, averaged along the pipe,
reaches a maximum value. Limiting values at the end of
the pipe (for boiling water--98-99 percent, and for
sugar solutions--90-95 percent), which ensure optimum
