Abstract The author considers that the manifestation of embryo Im-
munity should be a subject for a comparative-embryo-
loLp.cal study. In the course of the orLpnism's develop-
ment. immunolocdcal properties arise and underao chanL;es
not in an isolated fashion, but in continuous relation
to embryogenetic processes. A study was made of diffe-
rent cases of this relationship arising in phyloGenesis.

ABSTRACT: Due to the achicvements of biochemistry, et3pecially of fine cen-
trifugating and by meana of electron wicroseopy, superfine struc-
tures were discovered with which the basophily of tht celles is
combin~!d.They are known as "er.r-astoplasma", "ondloplasmatic rtti-
licam" and "double a-cytomembren" in the special litzrature. The
author otudicd the fine atructure of the subj,-ct referred to in
the title, during the first stage of' 6rowth. The wLthod of inve-
stigation is described. For this purpose they ased moreover Uri
electron nicroscope of the type UEM-loo with a avoltage of 6o kV.
Since the net-shaped structure of the basophilic structuras is
lck!arly recognizable from figure 1, the author proposes the term
"ergastoplasmatic net" for it. It is very variable according to
its shipe. The following pecularities may be pointed out from
observations made: 1) Corresponding to the increase of basophily
the cytoplasma of the oocytes proves to be rich in altramicrosco-
pic structures. The latter belon,cr to ergastoplasmatic formations.

matic system. On this bads ft can be asmmd that the ergastopUans
participates in the formstion of new-chondriocoms. There are

ABSTRACT: The most recent papers on electron-microscopic examinations
(Refs 1-6,9,10 and many others) concerning the ultra;--i - --
structure of the epithelial cello are only in a few cases
dedicated to tl~e intestinal epithelium (1950-1954). At that
time the method of cutting extratenuous sections had-not yet
attained a very high level. Although the rodlike structure of
the cuticle of the intestinal epithelium (Refs 3,6#9s1Q) has
been proved, the microstructure of this cuticular cell almost
has not yet been investigated-at all. This caused the study of
the subject mentioned in the title. The intestine of the
Ascaris (Parascaris) was fixed according to reference 6 and
infused according to reference 7- Using,,an ultramicrotome of
the Shestrand system, sections 200-250 A thick were out by

agent under an electron microscope UBM-100 at 60 v. The results
obtained are represented by schemes (Fig 1) and microphoto-
graphs (Fig 2) which Indicate that the striated border I:) it
combination of numerous closely joined, rodlike appendices of
the apical part of the cytoplasm of intestinal cells. The- '- are
up to 4,"high, their diameter is 930 1. The number of appendices
of a cell varies between 4200-48001 therefore the entire sur-
face of all appendices amounts to 5680~1 2 approximately, that
means the surface of a cell is multiplied by 35, (Refs 2,396og).
The microstructure of the appendices (Fig 2) is described here.
As a result of the examination the following is ascertained:
1) The striated border is a complicated structure. It consists
of numerous aforesaid rods. 2) rhese appendices are finger-
ahaped invaginations of the cellular membrane, The latter has
a complicated structure of its own. The cavity of the appen-
dices is bound by a double membrane. Besides, the entire
striated border has a membrane -2171 thick in common. 3) No
supporting structures have been proved within the cells of the
intestinal epitheliuml apparently this function is fulfilled
