Histological ex-apdnations showed that ti-O endothelium of cavillaries, postcapillaries and venules took up the Indian ink granules from the blood and stored them. lit the same time some of the endothelial cells degenerated. The Indian ink granules found their way to the adventitial ce.1s. The pericytes charged with Indian ink gradually separEAed off, wandered with amoeboid movements into the connective tissues, and. dis~,2rsed tt-,,e Indian ink. The effect of histamine therefore, was to transform the endothelium into reticulo- endothelium. Between the non-ial en6otheiitra and the reticulo-endothel.ium I;Ioreo'.'er there is no genetic or -.Lor---: ologicEil, but only a functional dif ference. Following introduction of India ink into the oubarachnoid apace of rato in the region of the lumbar vertebrae, the partIclee are found only In the motor and sensory roots and In the interstices of the intervertebral ganglia. A third group of animals was Injected with ink into the tissues surrounding the vague nerve. The Aoyama technique of impregnation disclosed on the in- ternal surface of the outer perineurium, a per- ilemma (P) of 1-2 microns thickness which pre- vented diffusion of the dye. The P consists of two layers of aquamous cells similar to meso- thellum, with a basal membrane between them. To demonstrate the barrier functions of the P, the tissues around the nerve were infiltrated with an isotonic solution of ferrous chloride; the iron ions penetrated, within a period of several minutes, through the connective tissue membrane, but were detained at the external surface of the P, through which they passed only after a period Card 2/3 HUNGARY Human and Animal Morphology - Nervous System. S Abe Jour Ref. Zhur. - Biol., No. 22, 1958, No. 101467 of 3-4 hours. A similar prevention of diffusion of the iron ions was seen (but In the reverse direction) with infiltration of the ferrous chloride solution directly into the nerve. If ether was added to the solution, the permeability of the P for iron ions Increased by about nine fold. Studies of the histochemical structure of P showed that it contains a considerable amount of lipoids, while its basal membrane consists of mucoproteins. Bibliography of 55 titles. -- A. "Induction and Morphogenesis." Budapest, A Magyar TudomanVos Akademia Biolorziai Tudomanyok Osztalyanak Kozlemenyei, Vol VI, No 1-2, 1963, pages 87-92. Abstract: Induction-. and gastrulation are described and the essence of induction is defined. Several investi(,ational approaches and findings are presented by the author. It has been found that induction is nd;sudden, but a chain reaction. It lends properties to the surrounding t.-Iissues which enable their transformation by inner changes. It consists of physical and chemical processes. Induction is investigated: by the use of isotope-physicv, to test the material exchange between induction and reaction; by the use of filters of various porosity; by the demonstration of or.-anizator diffusive- ness; by electron microscopic tests durin.7 infusion and by the isolation and characterization of regional inductor materials in mature tissues. Normal and abnormal induction is discussed and investigations on the ana- lysis of induction in the lense of the eye described in detail. Protoplasm, and several hypotheses concerning the interaction of can surfaces, are discussed. The article was presented at the meeting of molecular ciologists in Many, Hungary.
