TITLE: Function of the isolated kidney
SOURCE: KiBerletes Orvostudomany, v- 17, no.~-!,, 1965, 88-92
TOPIC TAGS: urology, biochemistry, excretion, blood, hematologyo internal medicine
ABSTRACT: In the isolated kidney, renal resistance was found to be higher,
diuresis, PAH and creatinine clearances as well as Na excretion lower than in the
in situ kidneys used as controls. The hemodynamic changes can be explained by the
increase in preglomerular resistance. The lesser water and Na excretion is presumably
related to a decrease in glomerular filtration. Orig. art. has: 8 formulas and

"Observation!3 Concerning -the Protective Action of Pantothenic Aci-1
Against Radiation."
Budape!~t, Ki,,;erletns Orvostudorriany, Vol 15, No 2, Apr 63, pP 134-1)6.
Abstract: [Aiithors' Hun,,,arian swrimary] Prelimimary tests indicate that
the life-3pan of mice exposed to whole body X-ray irradiation may be
lengthened by a prior treatment with pantothenic acid. It may be assumed
that the mec I.1anism of the protective action is dependent on the effect
of pantothenic acid on the protection of the epithelium and the capillary
walls, and its activating role in tissue regeneration, protein zynthesis,
antibody production and corticoid synthesis, and also its general anti-
allergic properties. Details of the protective action must be worked
out by further study. Of 37 references, 8 are Eastern European, the rest
is Western.

Abstract: [Authors' Hungarian summary] A survey of various methods of ex-
change transfusion is followed by the desoription of the apparatus used
by the authors. It has a few new features such as a special stopcock,
the use of paired syringes and a new method of heparinization. It is
suited for the simple and safe performance of the exchange transfusion

The anion exchange adsorption rate of Th, Zr and Nb was atudied from sulpbats
solutions. For the experiments a Hungarian-rade quaternary amino type of resin
(Mykion PA) was used. It was established that the differences between the
distribution ratios of Th, Zr and Nb render possible the separation of these
elements from sulphate solutions by means of ion exchange, the separations were
carried out on the basis of the abcve studies on distribution.

The Incunar skull Is an evolutional anomaly of the prenatal period, generally as-
sociated with meningocele, spina bifida, rachischisis and other anomalies (cleft-
palate, harelip, clubfoot). Concomitant ascending meningitis has In general a lethal
outcome. Case report of a male infant of normal pregnancy and birth with dilated
cranial sutures and a lumbar meningocele. The largest part of the frontal and part-
etal bones contained extensive unosetfied areas surrounded by thin osseous trabe-

11 Practical Observations Concerning the So-Called "dattle Discase' of Poultry.0
Budapest, MaLryar Allatorvosok Lapja, Vol 21, No 2, Feb 66, pages 87-89.
Abstract- [Authors' English summary modified] 'Wattle disease' was en-
countered often in the course of a survey of large poultry stocks,con-
taining over 200,000 birds, during the past two years. It is stressed that
the condition is not related to fowl cholera; this is emphasized es-
pecially because of the diagnostic implications. The opinion is expressed
that the condition should be regarded as a symptom of some other condition
associated with damage to the epithelial cells, probably fowl pox. Additional
studies are needed to elucidate the etiology of the condition. No refer-

Abitricti (Authors' Hunarian summary] Years of experiments were con-
ducted to produce a vaccine for active immunization aj;aIn3t hopQtitia.
The vaccine was to contain the hepatitis virus in weakened enouph
form so as not to produce the disease In children :If administered in
quantities (o.ol ml) which would be hopatitogen If native hepatitis
serum were used. This was achieLed when chemically weakened hepatitis
virus was mixed to normal gamma globulin. Of the 122 children vaccinated.
g
none was infected from the vacc a. Without Infection, the fact that
the virus was actually living c6uld not be proven although previous
experimenta led to the conclusion. 3 Weetern,3 Hungarian references.

"Measurement of the Fibrillational Threshold by Means of a Simple Electronic
Installation. "
Budapest, Kiserlete3 Orvostudomany, Vol X--X, No 1, Jan 67, pages 71-73.
Abstract: [Authors' Hungarian su:ni-ary] A method and instr=ent was
developed by the authors for measurement of the fj:brillational threshold.
The supplementary electronic unit is attached to the grid of the final sta4e
of a cardotester channel and the R, wave appearing there serves as the
eliciting stimulus. This in turn is used as the starting stimulus of a con-
ventional stimulator. The fibrillational threshold can be measuren with
ease by means of this method. All 5 references are Western. CYanuscript

Experimental Cardiac-Revascularization Operations." 0j
Budapest, Kiserletes -Orvostudomany# Vol XIX, No 1. Jan 67, pages 74-78.
Abstract, [Authors' Hungarian summary] The mortality data involving acute
coronary obstruction, produced with the unopened thorax meZhod on dogs,
are examined by the authors. The mortality obtained (33 per cent) is con-
siderably lower than that in the case of acute descendent ligature in the
opened thorax (52-60 per cent). Attention is called to the Importance of the
descendent ligature testing method from the viewpcdnt cf evaluation of cardiac
revascularization operations. 4 Ea3tern European, l'0 western references.
