TEXT: Preliminary results have been obtained by means of nuclear
emulsion plates which had been irradiated. 6 pairs of successive or
parallel interactions of heavy nuclei have been found. Their character-
istics are given in tl~e table. N h denotes the tracks of the emanation
particles, Z the charge of the incident nucleus, Z i the charges of the
fragmentation products, Ire is determined from the relation

TITLE: Interaction between pi-mesons and atomic nuclei

TM: For the purpose of obtaining infornlation on the mechanism of energy
transfer to nucleons in the interaction of high-energy pions with nuclei, stars
were inspected in a photographic emulsion irradiated by.a 4.5-109-ev negative pion
beam, in the Berkeley Bevatron. The mean number of "gray" tracks in the star was
detcrmined as a function of the number of "black" tracks. The mean number of gray
traclis N9 was - 1.5 when the number of black tracks was 1-7,.which appears to cor-
respond to Interaction with the light )auclei of the emulsion (N, G, 0) or with
the surface of heavy nuclei. N 9 is about constant and Is equal to 4 for a number
crf black tracks >10, which corresponds to interaction with Ar and Br. Such a
behavior of N 9 is not in keeping with the "evaporation" mechanism of nucleon
ejection from nuclei. G. L.

TITLE: Investigation of Cu-Ni alloys suitable for heat exchangers

ABSTRACT: The a-uthor investigated alloys that could replace the well krpm Cu-Ni
70/30 alloy, and would have the same corrosion resistance to sea water^hile contain-
ing a higher proportion of Cu and a lower one of Ni to be cheaper. Corrosion
experiments were conducted both in still*and in agitated media. Alloys Cu with 5% Ni!
Cu with 10% Ni, and Cu with 20% Ni, all containing 114ri and Fe were tested. Addition iF
of corrosion inhibitors such as As, Sb, and P in amounts of P.02 0.1% was
investigated. The alloy Cu-Ni 80/20 has satisfactory corrosion properties, as
well as mechanical strength, and is a suitable substitute for the 70/30 alloy-
