-Al6ino rats were injected with turpentine oil and stained turpentine oil at different
times after death. In a few casc,,3 surgical silk Impregnated with turpentine was
implanted. A few experiments in human post-mortem material were also perform-
ed. The sites of the injury were examined nistologically after different time inter-
vals. Results: the cellular infiltration consisted of histiocyte- and fibrocyte-like
cells and of large phagocytic cells containing large dark-8taining fluciei. A signific-
ant difference was observed between Me intravital and post-mortem reactions: tne
intravital reaction was characterized by le-icocytea, the picture ;kfter death was
monotone and snowed only round cells. The fresh i;upravital and the intravital re-
actions showed only slight differences. The few leticocytes with round nuclei of the
post-mortem reaction derive locally from the fibrocyte-like cells. The fibroblast-
like phagocytic cells were probably derivative of the post-mortem anoxia. The
process corresponds to post-mortem 'reaction' or 'proliferation' but not to 'post-

Abstract,: [Authors' German summary] The IGSH content of the anterior
lobe of the pituitary of mature female rats decreaces conuiderably as a
result of serum gonadotropin. At the same time, the weight of the pituitary
as well as the number of PAS-positive cells in the anterior lobe increase.
The various possibilities of interpretation for the observed phenomena

Anterior-pituitary -rafts under the, renal capsule or in non-hypothal-

amic parts of the brain of hypophysectomized animals contained no
eosinophils as a consequence of the highly inactive thyroid, but these
cells reappeared after thyroxine treatment. In Laplants localized in
the hypophysio-tropia area of the hypothalamus, eosinophils occurred
only if the histological'structure of the thyroid was normal. It was
concluded that the nerve cells of the hypophysio-txopic area of the
hypothalamus produce a substance which plays an important role in the
