ABSTRAM In this brief paper the authors report on the ascertainment that
in an interaction between trialkyl phosphites and nitrosyl chloride
and nitroxyl chloride mainly an oxidation of trialkyl phosphites
into corresponding phosphates takes place. In the case of the re-
action of triethyl phosphite with nitroxyl chloride apart from
triethyl phosphate also a smaller quantity cf a fraction was pre-
cipitated which corresponds to the tetraethyl pyrophosphate both
according to the constants and the analysis. In the case of nitro-
syl chloride a similar.fraction was precipitated, which contained
smaller quantities of phosphorus, though. In the case of higher
homologs of phosphites the authors did not succeed in precipitating
pyrophosphatea, since the distillation of ."'ligh-boiling reaction
products leads to their decomposition. There are 4 references,l of

ABSTRACT: According to an American patent (Ref 1) dioxolanes are readily
cleft by the action of acyl chlorides into the acyl derivatives
of oxyhalogen ethers
CH2 + CH3COC1 CH3COO---CH2CH2--O-CH2Cl.

It was not confirmed that also other halogen anhydrides break
the dioxolane ring (as shown e.g. in scheme 2). The uncomplicat-.
ed synthesis of P-acetoxyethyl chloro-methyl ether induced the
authors to use this ether also for the synthesis of phosphi-
nates. It results from the experiment that the complete esters
of phosphorus acid readily react with P-acetoxyethyl chloro-
methyl ether (Scheme 3). The constants of the esters obtained
are listed in the table. Many thiophosphoric esters proved to
Card 1/3 be insecticides, yet the authors did not succeed in obtaining

esters of thiophosphoric acid with a P-acetoxy ethoxy-methyl
radical in pure state. The esters of phosp'.'Ioric and thio-
phosphoric acid with heterocyclic radicals as insecticides are
of great interest (Hof 2). Therefore, the authors synthesized
phosphates with thiazole and thiodiazole radicals. On the action
of chloric anhydride of diethyl phosphoric acid o* the sodium
salt of 4-methyl-2-oxy thiazole the authors obtained a mixed
ester of phosphoric acid in good yield (Scheme 4). By the re-
action of the chloric anhydride of diethyl phosphoric acid
with 4-methyl-2-amino thiazole the corresponding substituted
amide was obtained (Scheme 5). The accessibility of 2,5-di-
mercapto thio-3,4-diazole (Ref 4) induced -the authors to cause
it to react with the chloric anhydride of diethyl phosphoric
acid according to scheme 6. According to the results of analy-
sis this formation is probable. There are I table and 5 refer-
ences, 3 of which are Soviet.

A study was conducted on the is6topic composition of a .,.,-reat many waters
of Central Asia by the densimetric nethod, carried out in the Institute of
Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry, Adademy of Sciences Yp. The total density
of the water without separation inot the isotopes 142 and 0 waB determined
relative t- a standard, which was water taken frnm the !.!oscow rater supply.
For the first time comparative data has been obtained on the is otopic com-
position of Central Asian waters, which permits one to decide the foll(n7ing:
the constancy of the isotopic ccmposition of river water alonc, the river
course; the colseness ofthe isotopic compositicn of river waters of
Central Asia (Syr-Darya, Amu-Darya) to t:,,.at of European Waters (Volga, Dnepr);
geological conditions governing the course of certain rivers and their orgin
0 0
(mountain, glacier under -round). These data will be utilized to clarify the
_~,enesis of the raters. Also studi~?d Yras the isotopic composition of rain and
snow viater. The relative density of the latter ~-ms les.: -than the density of the
standard, as i--ias the density of waters of rivers which are fed by meltin- snow
and ice glaciers. (rahGeol, No. 1, 1954)

The author gives the over-all isotopic composition of river, lake,
and sea waters around Leningrad. Comparing this with data published
earliF)r on the isotopic composition of river waters, he indicates that
the river waters around Leningrad are close to the Moscow standard and to
plains rivers. The author then discusses variation in the over-all

UzSSR, 1955, pp 13-38.
ABSTRACT: The author examines the distribution of the chemical
elements in the geosphere in relation to their isotopic
composition. Ali the elements are divided by the
author into 10 families, depending on the number of
isotopes. The sialic shell of' the earth is mono-
isotopic, and it is indistinctly (except for Co and
Rh) associated principally with acid magma . V and Nh
are associated both with acid and with basic magma.
Two extreme types of elements are distinguished in the
di-isotopic group--one with a sharp predominance of
one isotope over another and one with approximately'
Card 1/3 uniform proportions of isotopes. H, C, and N are

elements of the biosphere. N also forms the principal mass of the
atmosphere, whereas C1 and Br are associated with evaporites.
Residual di-isotopes (except for iridium) are also characteristic
of the sialic shell. Tri-isotopes include 0, Si, U, K, and Mg,
Si and 0 are ubiquitous in the earth's crust. U and K are character-
istic of the sialic, layer, Mg of the simatic layer. Of the tetra-
isotopes, Fe and Cr are simatic (sic) elements; Ce. Rb, and Pb are
simatic and S is ubiquitous., Among the penta-isotopes, Zn, Ge, Zr..
and W are sialic, and Ti and Ni. simatic. Only Pd of the hexa-
isotopes (Ca, Se, Xr, ~d, Er, Hf. and Pt) is simatic. Of the hepta-
isotopes (Mo, Ru, Ba. Nd, Gd, Yb, Sm, Dy, Os, and Hg) Ra and Os are
simatic; the others belong to the sial. Two sialic elements are
octa-isotopic: Cd and Te. Only xenon has nine isotopes, and only
Sn has ten (a sialic element). A comparison of the chemical compo-
sitions of the atmosphere and of the earth indicates that the chemi-
cal elements that are absent on the sun (these are chiefly mono-
isotopic) are young and that the geosphere is not all of the same
age (the sial is younger than the sima). A brief discussion is
given on the results of work to determine the total isotopic compo-

sition of the waters in several regions of Central Asia. The waters
that were studied were sepRrated into three types: 1) light (from
mountain streams), approximately -31~; 2) median (most rivers),
approximately tOY; and 3) heavy (waters of seas and lakes, oil
waters), from +l'Y to +SX. Tables are given to show the families of
stable isotopes.

ABSTRACT: By para-elements, the author means such chemical ele-
ments which may enter together into single space
lattices of minerals. Knowing, on the one hand, the
quantity of the para-elements in goneral and the para-
elements discovered at a given ore field, one may make
certain comparisons; on the other hand, knowing the
para-elements of a given element, one may ask the
question when studying ore deposits, -- what are the
possible types of minerals overlooked by investigators?

AFSTRACT: The author considers transported minerals to include
redeposited minerals and also those minerals that formed
by solution of earlier formed minerals and were sub-
sequently separated from their constituent parts in new
combinations or new valent arrangements. He cites
examples of transported minerals. Some minerals, such
as scapolite and the zeolites, may be both primary and
transported. The author believes that a study of
transported minerals with consideration of their
structures may aid geologists in searching for ores.
The distinctive features of transported minerals are
