Abstract : DescriDtion of a case of pneumioconiosis (extensive uni-
lateral fibrosis) In a rubber inclustry worker engaged in
preparation of rubbermixes (duration of employment 20
years). The air of'the work area was found to contain
large amount of dust that consisted of talc,, magnesia,
kaolin (5-10%)y chalk, carbon black, Siop (traces) etc.

The examinations of aluminium foundry workers so far completed show that con-
siderable quantities of fluorine are absorbed by the organism as can be seen fr~)M
the urinary fluorine excretion which on the average is 3 -5 mg. /1, urine. The ex -
c~etlon is thus estimated to amount to 5-6 mg. , because in the hot Surroundings
where the electrolytic founding is done the daily excretion of urine is 1000-1200 nil.
The F excretion Is higher than the lower safety limit which is given as 5 mg. 11.
As skeletal changes take a long time to develop (10- 15 yr. ) great care must be
taken when evaluating hitherto described positive findings. The potential hazard of
fluorosis has, however, been proved and this makes preventive measures imperat-
Ive: The affection of the Ca metabolism and the decreased urinary excretiun of
calcium must be further investigated. Satisfactory results can be expected, when
as a result of effective health education 24 -hour samples of urine will be obtnined
from the Investigated workers, The main emphasis munt be laid on systematic
X-ray examinations of the skeleton according to a schodu!e (including pelvis, knee
joints, and thoracolumbar spine) elaborated by the authors. The condition of the
respiratory passages indicates a certain improvement as compared with the Previous
year's examinations as can be seen from the results of laryngological examinations
and the low Incidence of bronchitis in foundry workers exposed to noxious sub-
stances in aluminium plants for 5 yr. Immobility of the cheat In cases with a
negative pulmonary finding should be checked objectively by means of an expiration
curve. In a single case with impaired mobility of the chest which was found, the
condition was due to pulmonary emphysema and not to fluorine intoxication.

can be obtained. This paper gives a theoretical analysis of one
such basic structural element, k.e. plate stiffened up with a

Abstract A study was made of 136 human umbilici and placentae, some
of them (40) by means of injections after delivery. No
circular folds or valves (valvulae Hobokenii) exist in um-
bilical or placental vessels before birth. The folds ap-
pear after birth as a result of contractions of the mus-
cles of the umbilical and placental vessels, and may disap-
pear later. Their development may also be explained by
physical laws: when the umbilical artery is filled under
a pressure of 30-200 mm H9 constrictions and typical folds
