ABSTRACTs It is desirable to have a single theory to deal with the problems
of anti-reflection coatings and of increase of reflectivity of
mirrors. The present paper is an attempt to construct such a
theory based on the mathematical treatment of A.G. Vlasair (Ref 1)
First the au-.hor deduces formulae fcr systems of thin dielectric
films. Those formulae are used to calculate the reflection
coefficients of layer systems con3ist-'rig of higF24-ZnS rand of
SiO2+TiO2- These films are taken to be deposited or a Slas6
base vith a refractive index of 1.52. The results are shown
in a figure on p. 664. This figure shows that an odd number of
layers produces better results. The author also derives general

The author investigated 50 patients vAth a severe form of stage III trachorna. Ac-
cording to severity' the patients were divided into 3 groups: (1) 3 patients with com -
plete xerosts of conjunctiva and cornea; (H) 21 patients with deep infiltration oithe
submucosa and a vascular and fleshy pannus; (111) 26 patients with deep infiltration
of submucosa, pannus, vascular dimming of the uppar half of the cornea and punc-
tate or diffuse deep dimming of the cornea. Prowazek's bodies vicre found in 11 pa-
tients, including 7 patients from group U. In the scrapinrs from the conjunctiva in
group I patients small lymphocytes in limited numbers and numerous polynuclears
were seen; In group II patients more lymphocytes, mainly of small to moderate
size, were noted and single lymphoblasts. and in 2 cases pol~muclears were seen;
in group III patients lymphocytes in limited numbers and polynuclears (in 5 cases)
were seen. The cytological investigations did not supply any data confirming the
virulence of the trachomatous process. There is no doubt hat endogenous factors
are of great Importance in the pathogenesis of severe forrr s stage III trachoma.
