ABSTRACT: Since 1955 the rodenticidal effect of one hundred 10-
indandions derivatives boa been studied in tests on adult gray and
albino rats, For a 5 to 10 day period the experimental groups of animels;
were fed rations divided into two ports: one part "poisonod' with the
derivative under study and the otber part left pure, Daily consumption
of poisoned-and,-nonp9isoned food was determined for each animul and alsoi-

ABSTRACT: The object of the work was to synthesize compounds having a dihydropyridine
ring and olectron-accoptor groups in Positions 3,5 and to study tha roactivity and
physicochomical. characteristics of such compounds(tho dihydropyridino ring is known to
enter into the composition of biologically important redox coonzymos). The condensa-

in the formation of 3-carbothoxy-2t7v7-trimothyl-5-koto-1,4v5,69718-hoxahydroquinoline
(IVa) was carried out. If acetaldohyde.or bonzaldehydo is taken instead of paraform-
zaaldohyda,' compounds IVb and Vo are iospectivoly obtained. In an attempt to oxidize,,
compounds IVa-c with C1 in glacial acetic aoJ.d,it was found that compounds Vb and o'
are readily formodo and hat the dihydroipyridine ring is broken, forming VI, The
latter was also formed by reacting Mwith concentrated H2SQ+.

This work reports study of 11 cases of bemorrbagic fever which occured
14 1953 and 1954 in a geographic location which had not been previously
kamm as a focus of the disease. Charts are included showing general datA
cd,teerning the patients, symptoms, bematological changes, temperature curves,
and results of the complement fixation reaction with convalescent serum
and serum from domestic animals in Astrakhanskaya Oblast. The clinical
--picture of the diseasc is discussed in detail. All clinical manifestations
of the cases observed were typical for hemorrhagic fever, as were the
epidemiological particulars. A tick vector was established; according to,
A. L. DuminF and data from the Rostov-na-Donu Institute of medical
parasitology, Hyalomma plumbeum plumbeum uas the parasite most con-monly
encountered in pastures in the affected area.
The work states that tick-borne encephalitis virus obtained from Ye.
ff,~' Levkovich and hemorrhagic fever virus obtained from A.A. Avakyan were

ABSTRACT: Differences of opinion exist on the etiology of postvaccinal complications
which sometimes develop after antirabies vaccination. Some researchers
hold that they are caused by the fixed, others by the street, form of
Formido inexorabilis. To help solve this problem the author adduces two
case histories of persons who developed postvacoinal complications after
antirabies vaccinations. Study of these case histories revealed that
the "complications" were, in fact, atypical paralytic forms of rabies
caused by the street virus. In the absence of conclusive proof, the
au-thors advise doctors to refrain from diagnoses, in cases of this kind,

ABSTRACTi The dynamics of changes in brain tissue phosphatasea in mice
infected with acute human encephalomyelitis virus (Reznik strain) were
studied. A histochemical study of the cerebellum (large neurons) and
hippocampus (Purkinjo cells) of experimental animals showed the follow-

ing changes in cytoplasm as encephalomyelitis infection developed:
the activity of acid phoaphatase was intensified; 2) the intensity of
the alkaline phosphatasa reaction decreased; and 3) the RNA reaction

Abstract Solutions are given for the Fok self-consistent field equations for the
configuration (K) B22522p Ct. The solution was brought to a degree of
self-consistency r)=0.0025 (YUtBis A.P., Tunaytis G.K., Zh. eksperim. I
teor.'fiziki, 1952!, 23,512). The corresponding radial single-electron
functions were tabul*"d, The calculated value of the energx is -37-317
atomic units. The Interaction between K ls~~2s% and ls22p-1 wr-s next
calculated, leading to a reduction in energy by -0.041 atomic units. The
total energy calculated in this manner for the O'ion is -37-358 atomic
units and differs from the experimental value (-37.441 atomic units) by
0.2%. In the opinion of the author, an additional reduction in the cal-
culated value of ~he energy of C4-by 0.004 atomic units could be obtained
by using for K ls 2p3 the self-consisting single-electron functions
corresponding to this K.

Abstract : Description of a regulator of the steamine process car-
ried out in autoclavet; (RZ-2) which pernits complete
automation of the autoclaving process, including the
by-passing of steam from one autoclave to another and
discharge of the condonsate. Control of the steaming
process is effected by means of a celluloid, contour-
shaped schedule teriplate inserted in the regulator.

It is noted that the method erq.oyed differs from the usual pro-
cedures in that the host was shifted at an earlier stage of develop-
ment ofthe infection process. The most active virus proliferation in
brain tissue was observed around the 9th day after Infection.

ducted are given. A graph shows the content of Negri bodies in the
cells of the cornu a nis in the process of successive passages of
rabies street virus. Brains of animals killed during the agonal period
vere used as infecting material. The article says that the :game virus-
containing material was used in the first two series of experiments,
carried out simultaneously. Variants obtained in the first two series
were serologically identified by a neutralization reaction with stand-
ard-antirabies serum. It is mentioned that modification of the virus
was not observed during one year of research on the third series.
Analysis of data accumulated demonstrated the relationship between
the qualitative characteristics of the virus in question and the con-
ditions under which it existed. The article concludes that, upon se~~
rial passage, the-street virus of rabies is rapidly changed into -,a
vArlant with the bio3ogIcaJ and morphological characteristics of the
classic fixed rabies virus. Further research on street virus of various
origins is recommended.
