Prace, no. 196-214, 41-65 TOPIC TAGS: algorithm, automatic computer programming, algorithmic language, equal altitude method ABSTRACT: A program has been drawn up for the URALl AND URAL2 auto- matic computers using the equal-altitude method to calculate from astronomical data deviations from the vertical and geographical coor- dinates and the time correction'for the radio time signal. Certain theoretical problems were solved both in the formulation of the calcu- lation of the apparent places and in the logical structure of the program for the use of certain equations. The article gives the general text of the program of these problems for an arbitrary computei and the use of ALGOL (Algol Repportv Chiffres 3, 1960; H. The first part of the article gives the general relations necessary for the calculation. The second part deocribeo the specific program, the order of the calculations, and the separation of the formulas in the use of the ALGOL system. The authors thank Ii Bauersima, Member of the Observatory of Astronomy and Geophysics of the Czech Technical University for the valuable comments and cooperation in the formulation of the algorithm of the calculations. V* (Czechoslovak Socialist Republici New elements of equipment for growing monocrystals from solutions SOURCE: Akademiya nauk SSSR. Institut kristallografii. Rost kristallov, v. 3, 19619 265-272 TEXT% This is a summary of work carried out at the Minerals Research Institute at Turnov. The authors studied in detail the factors affecting crystal growtht the heat of the system, the composition of the solution., supersaturation, movement of the solution, the nature of the "primer" and the apparatus itself. The effect of Impurities on the growing crys-, tal was eliminated by using spectro-graphically standardized salts. Of the factors listed, movement of the solution relative to the growing crystal (and vice versa) and programed temperatkire lowering of the solu- tion receive special notice. Speed of rotation, time of rotation in one Card 1/3 New elements of... 30 5 3 " S/564/61/003/000/001/029 D231/D304 direction or the otherg reversing at regular inter-vale, have an important bearing on satisfactory crystal cultivation. Speeds of rotation ranged from 10 to 30 rpm and the periodicity from 0.5 to 1.5 min. In order to attain the desired conditions, an electronic switching apparatus *xas de- vised for use with a motor driven by a.c., a circuit diagram being in-- cluded inthe article. Mok--;yevskiy described a planetary movement for growing symmetrical crystals. The authors describe two arrangements for moving the crystal and the solutiont the first by periodically reversing the rotation of the crystal and the second by using a gear which imparts a spiral motion to the crystal. The shape of the crystal-holder, the height and speed of ascent could all be varied to change the crystal growing conditions. Symmetrical laving of all the faces of the growing crystal was realized, and perfect crystals were a practical possibility. In order to grow high quality crystals there must be little or no tem-, perature fluctuation, but the temperature drop must be very carefully contr,)'Lled for programmed changes. Contact thermometers, mark "Vertex," were found to be quite satisfactory. Multiple units with as many as 20 crystallizers were set up, regulated by a single control gear, The Card 2/3 30533 S/1564/61/003/000/GOI/029 Rew elements of... D231/D304 heating element consisted of six iron wires in parallel set in the base of the thermostat. The current input was 7 kw at a potential of 24 -volts, the control gear for the thermostat being adapted to regulate the temperature which in turn was registered by a group of four contact thermometers motivated by a pulsator with step-counter mechanism. If one contact thermometer should failp the others come into operation, so that in the end the temperature drop could be closely controlled within the range Oal - 30 per 24 hours, 9100 impulses being applied. Some dif- ficulty was experienced when the authors went over to independent tempera- ture control of the different crystallizerst and it was at this stage that the wultiple crystallizer was designod. Semi-nutomation tould thus be introduced and personrel released for other service. The work should be of particular significance in industrial single crystal growing; crystals,, it is stated, grown by means of automatic operation are of the highest quality. Engineers Shmid, Gnizdil, Kvapil, Vartal and th,3 per- sonnel of the Mechanical Department played an active part in the work. In the author's works the m&,,hod of operation is such that only when the content of S falls below 0.023% does the quality of the surface improve; with a further decrease in this oontunt, the quality increases as an exponential function. H3weverj the lowest level obtained at the wDrks up to now is 0.018%. This is due to the quality of the raw materials used at the works. To lower this content it would at least be necessary to remove the 3 from the fuel oil. Although tae lowering of the S content would decrease the plant capacity, it would improve the operation in the rolling mills. The fumaces In the works that could be used for operating at lower S levels are discus8ed. Orig. art. has: 2 figures and 7 tables. In connection with this dissociation it waa found that disintegration develops with the forming of AuBr and the oxiaationofmonobromide. For the dis- sociation of AvBr3 it holds that: lg PB -8199 _""52 (36C-4500K) r2' T and for the dissociation of AvEr it holds that: 7,39 - 43-2 (360-450'DK). On the strength of the results 19 FBr2 = T Card 1/2 obtained the enthalpy and enthropy of the formation of AtBr aM The Thermal. Dissociation of Gold Bromide 78-3- 7-2/44 AdBr3 were calculated for the interval of 350-4500K. The temper- ature dependence of the energy liberated during the foruation of gold halides is given. Radiograms of gold, AmDr and AuBr 3 were taken. DuiAng the dissociation of gold monobromide the lines of gold and not disintegrated AuBr were detected in the samples. It was confimed by Debyegrems LeA AuBr is dissociated at low temperatures. It was shown that at temperatave belo'a 3250K JkUBr is disproportionated to Auft and Au, and that at room tanpera- tures it exists only in a ml;table state. There are 2 figures, 5 tables, and 10 references, 4 of which are Soviet. SUB)LTTTE): June 1, 1957 1. Gold bromide-Decomposition 2. Gold b romide-'.-'~ 3. Five milliliters ef 0.25 M VI are added to the solution and the volume adjusted to 25 al with water. The mixture is shaken and filtered (in the case of I the mix- ture is allowed to stand for 10 minutes). The first 5 ml of filtrate are discarded. To 10 ml of the filtrate are added one milliliter of 0-1 N Na2S201 and 5 ml of an acetate buffer (PH 4-5) ard the solution is titrated with 0.05 M VII until the yellow color disappears. For the dete=ination of 11, 70-75 mg of the substance are dissolved in 5 ml-vater and one milliliter of VIII; VI is added and the volume ad- justed to 25 ml with a saturated solution of Na-SO - A blank is run simultaneously. The described method permits ~ge ketermiration of the above-indicated substances in mixtures with barbiturates, salicylates, citrates, phenacetines, and ascorbic acid. For the determination of I in the presence of salts of intermediate and strong bases, the latter must first be precipitated with a 0.25 M solution of mercuric potassium iodide. VI forms constant composition precipitates with I, II, and III at PH 1.2-1.5, and with IV and V at PH 1.2-2.1. The precipitate has the following composition:. ILTc i, (BiTi4)4BiI IIJ' H802NAT 7ii8q2N,)H7 -TC7 (Bi34), the hydrate of IIILTC20H~ 214(BiM,)5I3 44ochloride, Card 2/3 Czechoolovakia/Analytical Chemistry - Analysis of Organic Substances, 0-3 Abst Journalt Referat Zhur - Khimiya, No 1, 1957, 498 sulfate, VJCIOH N2)H-73(BiT )21.
