ABSTRACT: Tests on gamm-radiation-initiated solid-phase polymerization of
N-vinylsuccinirrdde'~~d benzoguinoneA and N-vinylsuceinimide and phthalic anhydride
showed that by increa--ing the ratio of the benzoquinone or the phthalic anhydride
the reaction mixture, eventually the reaction rate decreases considerably. This
phenomenon was attributed to the inhibitory effect of a fine-structured layer forming
on the surface of the reacting components in the monomer form. The mechanism
involved was investigated and the presence of the inhibitory layer was verified.

ABSTRACT: [English article) The freque'ncies of wakes shedding from a cir-
cular cylinder placed in a water flow with values above the critical Rey-
'nolds number were determined as function of various parameters. At.and
above the critical Reynolds number the Strouhal number is a function of
the cvvitation number, and there is evidence of regular vortex genera-
tion in this region. In cavitating flow, with a given cavitation number,,
the drag coefficient has a constant value, independent of the value of

polymer was studied in monomer-polymer systems during radiation-induced
solid-state polymerization, on the kinetics of the solid-state polymeri-.
zation of N- inylsuccinimide.j~rhe formed polymer accelerated the polyme-.
rization,, owing to deformatioha in the crystal lattice (partly decompo-
sed crystal structure) and by the increased mobility of the monomer mo-
lecules caused by the polymer formed. This effect is likely to occur in
the case of monomers that are of accelerating character in solid-state
polymerization. The reverse effect is likely to occur in the case of
