Describes discussion of Academician Ye. S. Varga's book, "Changes in the
Economics of Capitalism as a Result of World War II." Twenty participants
included ticademicianss corresponding members of the Academy, doctors and
professors. Author of article quotes opinions, both favorable and unfav-
orable, ixpressed by the 20 participants. Varga states that, as the author
of the book, he was satisfied with the discussion, which was carried on by
qualified economists and sharp critics, but that as an economist, he was
forced to disagree with certain basic questions brought up in the discussion.
He agreed that the bock had certain deficiencies, but upheld his basic
premises even in the face of opposition. Meeting held under chairmanship

and lymphocytopenia could be demonstrated. They postulate that such changes
may be due to a shift in the sympathetic direction In the tone of the Vegetative
nervous system, due presumably to an increased output of adrenaline andi'or of

ABSTRACT: The clinical symptoms in the
,operated stomachwhich can be demonstrated by radiology. are discussed.
Phantom experiments with paraffin and water were performed by the authors
and mechanical changes were produced.uhich resembled pathological alterations
(ulcers and tumors), in the anastomosis and in the risected stomach (Billroth
II). The phantoms, run on dogs. were similar to the human abdomen. It was
found that X-ray examinations are unsuitable for the detection of the super-
f icial forms of marginal ulcer and gastrescopy must, therefore6 be performed.
,Deeper and more extensive marginal ulcers can be detected successfully by
X-ray examinatiotus as well, however. Parietographic examinations are very
useful for the detection ofcarcinoma in the anastomosis. especially in

Abstract: [Author's Hungarian summary] The therapeutic use of a new,
domestically produced dru.:,r, No-Spa-Isopropamidum, is reported in ulcer
diseases. Good therapeutic effects were achieved in 80.1 per cent of the
cases and recurrences were also reasonably low. The results were
compared with those of other drugs used in the treatment of ulcer and the
conclusion was reached that, of all domestically produced compounds tested,
this aave the best results. The dru~r is considered to be also suitable for the
ambulatory treatment of ulcer. 11 Hungarian, 5 Western references.
