Iri order to establish the importance of vagal activity in gastric secretion the
authors studied the insulin-induced gastric secretion. In normal subjects the peak
of HC1 secretion comes 20 min. later than that of pepsin secretion. Gastrectom-
ized subjects injected with insulin either do not secrete any HCI or fail to show a
dissociation in the response. The pepsin production 13 unaltered. The authors
ascribe this difference in behaviour to the action of an agent liberated by Vagal
stimulation from the distal part of the stomach. The secretory affect of this sub-
stance could be demonstrated in dogs, transfused with blood from hypoglycaemic
donor doirs. The recipients showed an increased secretion of HC1 while the pep-

Abstraett (Authors' Hungariin summary] The authors examined the role
of water-retention in the pathogenesio of phanylbutazone-ulcers. It is
concluded that phenylbutazone is a strong atitidiuratic compound. Di-
uretics containing mercuri are able to decreaso the general water reten-
tion, ohlorthiazide decreases the local edena of tho mucous membrane.
In spite of this, the diuretics tested did not Influence the ulcer-pro-
ducing effect of pbenylbutazone. Therefore, the prov'_~u3ly suggested
significance attributed to wator-reteation In the pat-iogenosis of

Abstracti [Authors' Hungarian summary] As a result of their own investiga4
tions the authors reached the conclusion that phenylbutazone exerts its
uIcerogenic effect probably not by activation of the pltuitary-adreno-
cortical system. Simultaneous administration of ACTH and cortisone with
phenylbutazone increases the severity of the ulcers formed. This is con-
sidered the result of the summation of the effect of two ulcero,-enic com-
pounds.Attention is called to the dangers of simultaneous administration of
phenylbutazone and steroid. 3 Hungarian, 8 Western references.
