"Diffusion of Salicylic Acid and Sodium Salicylate from Some Oint-
ment Bases."
Prague, Ceskoslovenska Farmacie, Vol 15, No 6. Jul 66, pp 282-286
Abstract C~Authorsl English summary modified_7: Diffusion of sal-
leylic Fcid and sodiun, salicylate from some ointment bases into
physiological solutions was studied. The amount diffused in-
creased with increasing hydrophilic character of the ointment
base. Different solubilities of the drugs in the diffusion medium
distinctly influenced diffusion from hydrophilic vehicles, but had
no effect in the.hydrophobic bases. Differences in the diffusion
of finely and coarselv dispersed salicylic acid were evident in
hydrophilic vehicles. 1 -t"igure, 6 Tables, 19 Western, 3 Czechp 3

TITLE: A new type of petroleum pump packing
SOURCE: Byulleten' tekhniko-ekonomicheskoy informatsii, no. 10, 1966, 41-42
TOPIC TAGS: oil pump, packing material, resin, &A- .K AI r, 8 1- r cparing- /-,/ U/ /D 10
ABSTRACT: The Perm Petroleum Refinery has developed a new type of face packing for
oil pumps, employing a rotating bellows of polyfluoroethylene resin in,place of a
stuffing box. This has been tested in a catalytic reforming stand and operated
continuously for 2,000 hours under specified pressure, temperature and solvent with-
out any detectable loss of oil. The bellows has five ridges, is turned on a lathe
with a special chasing cutter, to a thickness of 1.1 to 1.5 mm. It is installed
around the pump shaft and pressed to the shaft by a rotating steel ring; it is ex-
panded by a steel spring, and packed at the far end by a textolite bushing. The
heavy steel journal through which the shaft passes is faced with sormite and has an
internal channel-through which cooling water circulates, since the pump ig used to
deliver oil at 120 to 150*C. This type of pump can also be used industrially for
acids, alkalies, or other aggressive chemicals. Orig. art. has; 1 figure.

Solutions containing 0.250 g./1. sulfuric acid and 0 - 175 g./l. zinc
.sulfate was investigated by determining the electromotive force of a

motive force decreased with increasing sulfuric acid content, zinc con-

PERIODICALs Znaniye - Sila, 1957, # 9, PP 1-4 (USSR)
ABSTRACTs The article is an excerpt from a new fiction story by Yuriy
Veber "The Outline of the Invisible" (Frofill nevidimki), pub-
lished by the almanac "Our Contemporary" (Nash sovremennik).
It describes the work of a team of factory designers that
are cooperating with scientists of a research institute in order
to design an apparatus of the highest precision supposed to
measure microscopical invisible crests on every surface. The
role of these crests in modern engineering is said to be so
important that special scientific works are published, ihter-
national conferences held and research work of many scientists
done, to invent an apparatus capable to recognize, to count up
and to describe these crests.
The author illustrates the daily work in a small laboratory,
where the latest scientific achievements, as electronics and
cybernetics are used.

ABSTRACT: The effect of the potential of a smooth platinum electrode on the kinetics
of adsorption of ethylene glycol from 1 N H2S04 solutions was studied. The dependence
of the steady-state coverage of the electrode surface by adsorbed particles on the po-
tential is represented by a curve with a maximum lying at potentials of 0.4-0.5 v,
i. e., in the region of potentials where the adsorption of hydrogen and oxygen is min-
imal. Measurements at various temperatures showed that the activation energy of ad-
sorption increases linearly with the coverage of the electrode surface by the adsorb-
ed particles. It is shown that at 4r
