ABSTRACT: The introduction of new rolled sections (S) and types, and the
lightening of the existing models, are needed to save metal. Examp-
les of rational S scheduled for adoption are presented. Consider-
able economy is also attainable with large-scale introduction of var-
iable sections. Each such S permits a 10 to 151o metal saving with
a corresponding saving of labor and cost in parts production. Mea-
sures to save metal and reduce expenditures upon the machining of
parts are held back by the existing limitation of inventory, transit,
and assembly, all of which require re-examination

TIWt The Electromagnetic Investigation of the Structure of the Molecules
of Vinyl Chloride and Trifliiorochlorethylene (Elektronograficheskoye

PMIODrCALLf Doklady Akademii nauk SSSR, 1959, Vol 126, Vr 2 PP 310-313 (USSR)
ABSTRACTt Knowledge of the molecular structure of vinyl chloride C03 Cl and
trifluorochlorethylone G2F3G1 is of essential interest for
understanding the mechanism of their polarization and also for the
purpose of explaining some problems of molecular structure. This
includes especially the conception of double bond. All unsettled
questions concerning the structure of the molecule 02YI &rise
apparently also in the ease.of the molecule of 02F3Cl. The
eleotronograms of the vapors of 003 01 and C? 3Cl were taken by
means of an earlier described (Ref 5) elootronograph.'Theme
eleotronograms were then evaluated by visual evaluation of intensity
Card 1/3 according to the method of radial distribution (curves rD(r)) and

successive approximations (curves I(s)). For vinyl chloride vapors
(boiling point -13-80) a total of 7-series of elbotronograms was
recorded. From the data given in a table the experimental curve
was then derivedp and from it the radial distribution curve was
calculated. The main peaks of this curve V.responds to the
following interatomic d&stancess 1) 1.32 A r(C x C)l 2) 1.72
r(C - C-1), and 3) 2-71 A r(0 ... 01). By -the method of successive
approximations the distance r(0 a C) was essentially precisely
defined. The following parameters were determined for the molecule
of vinyl chloride: r(C - C) a 1. 2 + 0.02 X; r(C - Cl)21-7240-01
LCGCI a 125t?O; r(C. - HY z 1.07 F, Zd for MCH a IRCCi 120U is
assumed. A total of 9 series of electronograms was recorded of the
vapors of 02F301. On the basis of experimental data the experimental
intensity curve was then constructed. The inner part of the
diffraction picture was so diffuse that the 3 visually found maxima
could not be measured. The curve of radial distribution was derived
from the experimental intensity curve. The peaks of the curve r D(r)
belong to the following interatomic distances in the molecule

increase but rather decreases. No systematic MaWons. of tB 1Wgthor tw

observed. There are 4 figures, 4 tableso and 9 references, 4 of

The item briefly describes two apparatuses for auto-
matic control of both constant and flashing signal
lights, designed around transistors. The first
unit is intended for automatically switching on
signal lamps at night - and off by day - and con-
sists of a photoresistance unit (FS-Kl) and four
transistors (two P2Bs, a P3A and P3B), and the sig-
nal lamp. A 3-stage DO amplifier has a current
amplification factor of 60 db. Efficiency of the
unit as a whole is 65-90%. The second unit is in-

given frapencyg and shut the lamp off in daylight,
and COnelSt8 of a multivibrator using 2 PlB tran-
818tors, a DC amplifier with a P3A and P3B units
and a current amplification factor of 40 db, and
the signal lamp. An FS-Kl photoresistance is set
to stop the multivibrator when illuminated by day-
light. The unit consumes about 0.2-amp when the
lamp is burning, and about 10 ma by day or between
flashes. Overall efficiency is 85-90%. Average
current consumption with a flashing frequency of
0.33 imp/see and a duty cycle of 0.33 is about 75
ma. The authors claim dependability, long service,
and economy for these devices. A.F. Gorodetskiy
