ABSTRACT; It is shown that in working with non-equimolar solutions the
position of the maximum in general does not only depend on the
initial concentration but also on the parameter characteristic
of the equilibrium investigated. A theoretical consideration
of the method according to Ostromyslenskiy-Zhob was dealt wizh.
By moans of practical examples of complexes with a composition
of 1 : 1, 1 : 2 and 1 : 3 it was found that the displac ement
obtained for the maximum satisfactory agreed with the one cal-
culated. In using non-equimolar solutions also a displacement
of the maximum to the middle of the diagram may occur. The
Ostromyslenekly-Zhob method with non-equimolar solutions may
also be employed In investigations of complexes of higher co-

ABSTRACT: She authors note that neither the existing theories of electroluminescencel
(EL) nor the treatment of EL within the framework of the band scheme is satisfac 4.
'ory.j
The aging of luminors in an electric field is considered, especially at increased
temperature. It is assumed that besides the non-inertial excitation process there
exist also slow processesso connected for example with motions of the ions. A new
mechanism of excitation is proposed, connected with the destruction of the qom exes
produced by activator ions of variable valence with cation vacancies), with ions of
the co-activator flux residues, etc. The complexes can be broken up either by the
field, by heat, or by both. It is stated that the previously established laws of EL
do not contradict the proposed model. To confir- the presented considerations, a
ZnS-Cr luminor was synthesized without Cu. It was assumed that the interaction of
the transition metal (co-activator) shouldcoatribute to the formation of complexes

without contributing to the development of excitation mechanisms within the framework
of the existinp. theories. The obtained luminor had blue EL at a Cr concentration
5 X 10-4 - 10-9 g/g. A similar luminor without Cr has no EL. The experiment Is
regarded as proof of the possibility of existence of an ion-hole excitation mechanism
of electroluminors by a field, and of the special role played by the transition
metals as activators and co-activators in EL of ZnS. Bibliography) 12 titles. A.

Title: Cooling of Horse Mackerel in Refrigeration Plants
Original
Publication: Ryb. kh-vo., 1956, No 4,, 1o-11
Abstract: Investigation of different procedures of cooling horse mackerel.
Most approyriate Is liquid cooling In water at 0-40, which reduces
the duration of cooling to 30-40 minutes, and also the consumption
of ice to 50% of the weight of the fish. Numerous experiments in
full scale operation have shown the appropriateness of the use of
chlorinated water. Best results were obtained on addition to the
water of chlorinated ice containing 150 mg active chlorine per 1
liter of thaw water. Mackerel cooled in sea water with addition of
such ice exhibited good characteristics.

Abstract: In the cement of sandstone from upper part of Sumsarek layer have
been found small concretions of green and colorless tourmaline
crystals. Comp~Fsition of sandstonw. quartz., feldspar., fragments
of acidic effusive rocks; in subordinate amounts:- epidote, sphene,
ore minerals and micas; the cement consists of carbonatep analcite
and tourmaline. The latter vas formed atter the analcite, as a
result1of migration of boric compounds under conditions of arld-
continental zone. Noted was a replacement by tourmaline of chlorl-
tized biotite.

TRANSLATIM An amplitude 2-channal analyzer (ACA) Is described which is Intended for
determining single-variable and two-variable laws of distribution of the level
propabilities of two random signalsl the instrument permits evaluating the
advantage of an automatic-selection diversity reception over the ordinary reception
and also permits determining the c-orrelation factor ( F ) between the randon signals.
Circuits of the main ACA assemblies ara presented, as are ACA characteristics. A
longm-tiao operation of the instrument has proven itts reliability. The effect of
between the signal envelopes in the diversity channels upon the gain of diversity
reception Is evaluatedl also ? e3 a function of the separation between antennas is
given.

TRANSLATION: The coefficient of frequency correlation R between the levels of the
signals differing in frequency by A f x 2, 4, and 6 kc was experimentally determined
on a 1570-km route. Side frequencies of an AM-transmitter received separately by
two receivers were used for delivering test signals. The transmitter supplied an
antenna whose directional pattern in the horizontal plane was 48*. The received

30-60 sec. The coefficient R was determined according to Bogdanov's method. The
experimental data can be well approximated by a curve e(al)-c-atAp, where a~
(from the experiment) Is 0. 045. With f w 4 kc. R was 0. S. A theoretical entimate
made from known formulas yields f a 7 kc at R n 0. 5. The discrepancy can be
explained by the fact that the formulas w-cre developed for narrow directional
patterns. Bib 5, figs 2. Translatorts note: (The formula seems to be wrong.]

TRANSt~NIONJ'A:"The--eoffect of amplitude and phase field distributions in thr-- aperture
of receiving antennas of tropospheric and ionospheric scatter communication is
investigated. It is assumed that the amplitude error at each point of the aperture is
proportional to the specified amplitude distribution. Phase error# are assumed to be
stationary and distributed normally. The problem to solved by calculating a powor-

characterizing the medium inhomogencity upon the DP distortion is analyzed fox the
case of a cophasal antenna having a uniform distribution of received-field amplitude
over its aperture. It is proven that the phaso errors are largely responsible for DP
l
distortion. Here, the determining role belongs to the ratio (y) of the antenna (jize
(21)) to the radius of correlation of the inhomogencous characteristics (a) of the
medium. With low y, the amplitude and phase fluctuations of the received wipal
only slightly- distort the average DP, However, when ZD * a and -areve ral
inhomogeneities of the scattered field fit into the antenna linear size, the DP
distortion should be taken into account. Bib 7.
