ABSTRACT: The effect of the INIse-signal magnetic recording on the recording-
system output is considered. Formulas for the pulse characteristics of the playback
channel (distribution of the magnetic permeance over the tape-head section) are
derived; these formulas describe the output signals produced by single magnetization
pulses of A -function type. Formulas and curves for calculating the recording densit,.
for induction-type magnetic heads are developed. It is found that theoretically the
affect of the head-slot length on the density characteristics In mare pronounced In the
short-slot heads. The finite width effect of the head slot is explored. The density

characteristics for heads having 7-, 14-, and 36-micron slots are estimated and
compared with experimental characteristics for the same heads. A considerable
discrepancy is explained by the frequency loss in the heads, the width of the head

TEXT: The report analyzes the problems of using different fuels (both or the diesel and high-octane grade)
in piston engines without changing their basic design. The most efficient method proved to be fuel injection
into the combustion chamber at two different, exactly established time intervals, within a single cycle. This
method ensures maximum contro or the combustion process and may be used for light-rraction fuels, for com-
bustion of various fuel grades in case of difficulties in normal fuel supply, for reduction of diesel engine
vibration and smoking at the exhaust pipe as well as for the increase in maneuverability and power output.

Aqueous alcohol extracts prepared from abova-ground parts
of PZeotranthus gZauoooaZyx had a high degree of antimi-
crobial activity in Vitro against pathogenic protozoa and
&ran-positive bacteria. A new diterpene isolated from

Pleotranthus and called plectrin demonstrated antiprotozoan
activity in vitro against Triahomonao' vaginaZin and
Entamoeba histoZytioa (in a concentration of 4 pg/ml)t and
antibacterial activity against StaphyZoooooue aursue and
M. tuberoulosis (in a concentration of 16-64 ug/al).
However, as tests with experimental trichomoniasis, ame-
bissiapand giardiasis in rate showed that pleccrin does
not have an appreciable chemotherapeutic effect, it was
not recommended for clinical tests [is)

electric-motor speed controller with centrifugal control of resistors
and contacts and connections providing for several preset speeds. The
