TITLE: Electrical averaging link of a regulator operating
with constant and proportional pulses
PERIODICAL: Referativnyy zhurnal, Avtomatika i radioclektronika,
no 9, 1962, abstract 9-2-146 n (Czec.-i. pat.,- c1. 21c,
46~51, no. 98062, January 19, 1961)
TEXT: A simple device for the control of systems with delay is pa-
tented. k roltage, proportional to the error, is applied to a Do-
'prez-type relay the contact of which, dept~nding on the error sign,
closes the anode circuit of one of the.vaduum tubes. Relays which
close the circuit of the servomotor are connected to the anode-. of
the tubes. RC networks are conHected into the grid circuits through
a voltage divider. When operated the anode relay switches on the
servomotor and switches the RC circuit over to discharge; as a re-
sult the tube is cut off and the anode relay is released. The ca-
-pacitor charges again and the cycle is repeated. The anode relay

operates thus in an on-off regime, the length of the pulse remain--
ing constant as lon- as the sign of the error remains the same. The
interval between pulses may be as long as 150 ae,~ and corresponds
to the charging time constant of the capacitor which is set accoid-
ing to the required delay. I.f the error varies rapidly enough tile

regulator produces pulses, the duration of which is proportional
to the error period. The duration of pulses is limited by the time
of discharge of the capacitor and-is determined by the instant at
which the Deprez relay is switched over. Variable resistors in the
charge-discharge circuits of the capacitor are ased.in order to es-
tablish optimum control of the transient process. 1 figure. /-Ab-

"My Work on the Manual Economic Geography of Foreign
Countries for the Middle School," I. A. Vitver
"Iz Ak Nauk SSSR, Ser Geog" ho 1, pp 80, 81
Thlis manual was ordered in 1934 by the Cen Committee
for Teaching of Geog in Middle Schools. It had to be
based on the rules that economic geography cannot be
separated from politics; every country should be
described as to characterize it; maps have to be con-
nected to text; and the description should be clear
and logical.

ABSTRACTI The paper continues a study of the el~ .atrode proces ... jinvolved in the el3c'
trooxidation of aicohols in a 'lkaline media in the r4rig6 pf low ues of anodic polar-1
ization (40- 200 mV,). The electr'ooxidation of methanol kas investigated on skeletal
nickel, palladizod carbon and mixed n'ickel-palladium catalyst electrodes at 20-800C by
recording potenti%l-time curves and sto4dy-stato polarization charhateriatics by the
galvanostatic and gaoometric methods. The electrolyta-6oAained 3.3 moles of CH30H ani
7 moles of KOH per liter. It was found that the electr6brAdation of methanol practi-
cally does not occur on these catalysts at 207400p whereas at 60-800 it takes place Vij
a mixed mechanism which consists partly in hydration and partly in a direct electronic

TITLE: The Causes of the Developrent of the Monsoon in Southern
Asia (Prichiny razvitiya mussona Yuzhnoy Azii)
PERIODICAL: Izvestiya Akademii nauk SSSR - Seriya geograficheskaya,
1958, Nr 4, pp 33-41 (USSR)
ABSTRACTs The development of aerological methods of the study of the
atmosphere has established the causes of the regular oc-
currence of monsoons over Southern Asia. There are 3 main
causeeg 1) a difference in temperature of land and sea,
2) a displacement of the zones of the atmosphere due to
the differences in the temperatures of the equator and the
North Fole, and 3) the orography of the continent. The
monsoon forms only one part of the general circulaticn of
the atmosphere. There are 3 tables, 2 diagrams and 29
references, 9 of which are Soviet, 7 Indian,5 German and
8 English.
