The stearn-distilled bicycloheptadienta was 95% re-
covered and could be used again without any further
purification. Dieldrin was obtained on oxidation
of aldrin by means of 3-fold excess of ' -7% hydrogen
peroxide in 80% acetic acid at 1000 C. Dieldrin
thus obtained nad mp 100-1300 C. The content of
dieldrin in the tec-1inical product was about 80%

TEXT: Gold-prospecting was carried out on the Western ou
skirts of the Turkestan Range. On the basis of the results obtain
it is recommended that analogous prospecting should. be carried out
in three stages: (1) Metallometric and magnetic surveying to a scaleI
of 1:501000,.or more closely in regions offering & better change of.l.
.containing gold. The aim of these surveys is to plot the contours
of intrusions and to isolate from their exo-contect zones the more
.promising plots by the dispersion aureoles of indicator metals. It

western part of the region studied overlap with each other, forming

this way, by confirmatory traverses, collecting samples to be analy-i
zed for Au and testing concentrates. The aim of this stage is to j
define the most promising plots on which (3) detailed aurimetric

Saline extracts of various human tUMOUrs (stomach, rectum, mammary fibroacic-
norna, and others) were s.c. injected to 258 inice of low cancel- strains ((-57 black

and CC57)- The aninials were observed until their natural death. The'rr--sults ob-
tained were compared with the frequency of spontaneous tuniours in ini.ce of the
same strains. The quantity of tumorous mice in the c.-,p(-i-i mental group was twice
as large as in the control group, the turnours appearing in much younger aninials.
Tumour tvpcs that had not appeared spontaneously betbre could be obseived. The
authors 1)~Iicve that thesc extracts have a small but distinct blastomogenic activity.

A comparative investigation of the influence of some androgens on the incidence
-of mammary cancer development was undertaken In 118 C2UA mice. Androgens
proved to reduce the occurrence and to delay the time of their appearance. When
androgens with high hormonal activity were used (such as androstenediol. methyl-
androstenediol. androstenedione, and methyltestosterone), tumours were rarer
and developed in a smaller quantity of cases than during the injection of a weaker
androgen (epiandroaterone). 3, 16)

Abstract When embichin was administered to rabbits in a dosage of
1 mg/kg into the external iliac artery or the lower por-
tion of the abdominal aorta, and when corresponding veins
were compressed for 5-7 minutes, it was possible to avoid
depression of the circulatory system. It was impossible
'to achieve this when 'the some dose was injected into, for
example, the ra ginal vein of the rabbit Is ear without a
brief compression of the other vessels.

of Receiving Tubes

ABSTRACT: A rotary-hearth furnace has been. designed for high-quality annealling
of tube mounts. The furnace has'90 cast-iron "Pockets;" 6 of them are heated
by three pairs of opposing flat-flame burners, 7Z pockets are in a tunnel ('.Vith-
out heating), and 12 pock6ts are open on the top. The annealling time is 14
rMa, and output temperature, 140-150'C. The process consists of holding the
mount at the highest temperature, gradually reducing the temperature ir. the
annealling zone, and cooling. One of the pockets is equipped with a thermo-
couple that moves along with the mounts. To facilitate repairs, the tunnel is
detachable.
