ABSTRACT: The effect of alkaline and alkaUne-ea rth notals and their salts
on the permeability of a denuded norvo of a frog was stuaiod, The denaded
nerve in most of the experiments was placed into a plexiglass five mm wide,
.and two cm long. -Two electrodes (silver chloride spirals) covered with a
layer or agar dissolved in hot Ringor's solution were also placed into the
vessel, Ono of the electrodes was used for the electric polarization of the
nerve; the other for the derivation 6f potentials from the nerve in the vessel.,
The experiments began with the recording of the phys~oal alectrotonus induced
by various intensities of the polarizing current in the nerve saturated with
Ringer's solution or a physiological solution of N&M. No difference in tha
physical olectrotonus values could be found.whon either of the solutions

was used, and therefore the iotta Na and Ci in concentrations of 0.1 )f were
Accepted as those which indicate the normal permeability of the nerve fibers.
The solutions were thon replaced by solutions of alkaline olo'monts. It was
found that the ion K increases the permeability of the nerve fiber membrane;
it also tends to increase permeability for the Na ion; ions Rb and Cs like
-that of K also increase the pormoability of the nerve fiber's membrane. It
.was also established that in hydrated state rubidium depresses anoloctrotonus.:
and Cs intensifies both - the an - and cateloctronusl the cations of the
alkalino-oarth metals all intensify the catolectrotonus, with barium having
-the strongest effect and magnesium the weakest. All of the cations"of the

for the focusing of the dificharge. It was cotablished that impulse Localized
discharges stabilize the abfioli 'ate and relative spectral line intensities and
aLso eliminates the effect of third components,

Abstract : The Chair of Electric Networks and Systems of the
Moscow Power Engineering Institute made a technical
and economic comparative study of various types of
220/127- and 380/220-v secondary mains in large
towns having houses from 5 to 8 and from 8 to 14
stories high. It was found more efficient to use
loop type 220/127-v secondary bank arrangements.
Investments are In practice identical at both Vol-
tages but operational charges at 380/220 v Increase
by 50 to 60%, while additional outlays for copper

ABSTRACT: Investigated are the free vibrations of beams having a distributed
mass of their own and carrying concentrated masses. Systems of
equations, from which the free vibrational frequency is obtained by
the method of determinants, are transformed into equations for the
determination of the critical loadings of compressed beams having
rigid or elastic supports at intervals, anl also of beams lying on an
elastic base.
