In clinical practice the authors used ?01o solutit)n of cardiotrabt, taking 20 ml. and adding to it 30 g. of glucose liowder. Heated to botiy temperature i:ardwtrast mixes well with glucuse, forming a viscid fliod. With thorough anaes- thesia it is Ix,eisible to fill the bronebial tree with the contrast dye, umlt r fluoro- Scolly Control, and to take X-ray films. An hour later no dye is found in the breinchi and cavities as revealed by the control X-ray film, Rapid elimination of the contrast dye from the tracheo-bronchial system enables, when necessary, to perform bitateral bronchography at short notice and tn shorten the period between diagnosis and surgery. One of these our- faces is capable of radial motion for damping radial vibration. To prevent critical --speeds - -in--systems b-zeveral-dt:tLrees-~yf-freedota-through--&7-change in the--damping T factor, the-other part is-adjustable in an axial direction, thus changing the liquid-filled gap. To move the part axially, the part is threaded to a worm-gear-! driven ring incapable of axial motion. Orig. art. has: I figure. TITLE: An Investigation of the Interaction of Crossed Polarized Metallic Filaments in Electrolyte Solutions for the Modeling of Coagulation Phenomena and Keasurement of the Zero-charge Potential and the Constant of the van der Waals Forces .PEPIODICALt Doklady Akademii nauk SSSR, 1959, Vol 128, Nr 51 PP 981-984 (USSR) ABSTRACTi Direct experiments (Ref 1) and tho theory of the durability of lyophabs colloids indicate that repulsive forces act between charged surfaces in electrolyte solutions which, at distances of the order of ion sheaths, may be stronger than molecular attractive forces. In order to bring two crossed filaments into direct electric contactl a certain energy threshold N m is to be svrpassed. This process may easily be seen from the abrupt drop of electric resistance between the two filaments as soon as contact has been established. Such measurements were made by the authors by means of platinum filaments 30?)j, thick (Fig 2). One Card 1/3 filament was pivotedl loaded with a weight whose angle of rotation tllll~ 66180 An Investigation of the Interaction of Crossed Polarized SOV/20 128-5-34/67 Metallic Filamento in Electrolyte Solutions for the Uodeling of Coagulation Phenomena and Measurement of the Zero-charge Potential and the Constant of the van der Waals Forces was recorded on a photoelectric relay by means of a mirror. With the help of a motor and mechanioal goars the other filament was shifted slowly and continuously toward the first filament. The wires were placed in a hermetically sealed vessel which was filled with the electrolyte to be investigated. A circuit diagram In figure 3 demonstrates the manner in.which the two wires are calla;.7ged to a certain patent'ial. The article further gives a detailed description of the cleaning of the wires and the vessel as well as of the polarization of the wires. As soon as the first wiri had sufficiently approached# the second wire began to turn aside by rotation. A galvanometer indicated the passage of the energy threshold and the establishment of contact. The angle of rotation of the first wire at that instant was a measure of the amount of Nme The latter was meanured at various potentials in KC1 solutions of a concentration of 10_3Nt 10- 2N, and 10-1N Results are given in figure 4. At the potential 0.2:tO.02 v N. The constant of molecular attraction was computed with the help of a formula deduced by the second-mentiored author (Ref 3) for the action of hydrophobet curved surfaces in electrolytic aolutioVat A w 6.6.10-12 erg for an elootrolyto concentration of 10-2 mol/ltand A - 7.3-10,02 erg for a concentra- tion of 10-2 molll. The theoretical dependence of N m on the potential is illustrated in figure 4. The deviation of the experimental curves indicates the presence of neglected forces of a third kind. The value 0.2;tO,02 v corresponds to the platinum zero charge. The method suggested is therefore suited also for measuring metal zero charges. In conolusiont mention is made of an article by A. N. Frumkin (Ref 6) on electrostatic repulsion of films. There are 4 figures and 8 references, 7 of which are Soviet. S. 20-114-6-02/54 TITLE: The First Finds of Fauna in the VerkholenBkaya Series (Pervyye nakhodki fauny v Verkholenskoy svite) PERIODICAL: Doklady AN SSSR$ 1957P Vol- 1149 Nr 6, pp. 1291-1293 (USSR) ABSTRACT: The multicolored series of the layers conditionally de- signated as Upper Cambrian, which is widely spread in the South of the Sibirskaya platforma (Siberian platform), until 1954 was considered as faunally not characterized, as no organic remains were found in the mighty masBes of red rocks. Outside the amphitheater of Irkutsk a scarce fauna with Lingula I Obolus# hooded gastropods and - - algae was found (reference Then Vologdin and Korde 37. (reference 1) found small-columned stromatolites with well marked miorostructure in great variety among the Ordivicain layers with Angarella on the Angara-river in the uppermost part of the Upper Cambrian. Beside oyanophydeae moss-animals (Bryozoa) were found an well as the oldest representatives of the cephalopods from the Card 1/4 group of mixochoanites. In 1953 finally M. A. The First Finds of Fauna in the Verkholensk Series 20-114-6-W5], Teakhnovskiy found a now genus of trilobites (related to the Upper Cambrian Crepicephalus Owen) on the river Podkamennaya Tunguska. The author characterizes the cross section of the multicolored mass and the masses in contact with it in the interfluvial region Leno-Angaro-Okinskoye. The following ceposits occur there: Ordovician, Ustlkuts- kaya-suite (01). Light sand- and lime-stones with algae, gastropods and brachiopodep on the Lena river lead-bearing, 200-300 m thick. Upper Cambrian. Veroholenskaya-suite (CM3)- It consists of the following ub uites and horizons: Upper sandmarl-lime-subsuite 7Cmj). Kardinskiy horizon, 30-160 M thick. entral subsuite, predomin ntly consisting of sandstone (Cm ). RyutinskiX horizon (Cm a), 90_130 m thick.. Mikheylovskiy horizon (Cm5o), 70-101 m thick. VAt1&1tkju'skiX , horizonj 30-70 M thick. Lower gypsum-marl- subsuite-(Cm')# 100-200 m thick. Middle Cambrian (CM2). Variegated ho;izon (Cml-21), 0-50 m thick. The fauna of the Verkholonskaya-series contains relatively manifold groups. Weathered impressions of Arthropods, were found between Kachug and the harbor of Osetrovo in the Ust' - allkinskiy (?) horizon. According to N. 1. Novozhilov Card 2/4 they belong to those similar to Merostom, namely to the The First Finds of Fauna in the Verkholenak Series 20-114-6,.42,/54 forms which are similar to the genus Yohoia Walcott family Yohoiidae Henriksen, order Opabinida Stromer) referen_ce_67_.The animals were spindle-shaped, of various ~ size (figure 1). In the same year, 1955, well preserved remains of the same type were found in the Mikhaylovskiy horizon on the Angara river (Ifigure 1). A rest from the Ryutinskiy-horizon probably also belongs here (figure 2). Trilobites were found in the Kardinakiy-hoAzon, 40 m below the contact with the Ordovician. Furthermore mud- -eaters from several horizons, and algae are known in the Verkholenskaya-series. From the same series 13 types of spores are known. Thus quite a substantial fauna and flora existed here. As they were not yet sufficiently studied, it is not possible to make a division of the variegated aeries according to them. It may only be assumed that the lower parts of the Verkholenskmya serim will prove to be Upper instead of Middle Cambrian.
