TITLE: The Investigation of Paraffin From Zhirnov Petroleum

ABSTRACT: Samples of paraffin (P) with a m.-p. of 55PC were investigated which had
been separated from the rafined distillate of the autol fraction of Zhir-
nov petroleum, and of low-melting paraffin (LP) with a m. p. of 360C
separated from the filtrate after deoiling of P. P and LP were devided
Into fractions by means of complex-formation with urea and adsorption on,
slliea-ael and activated coal, The obtained fractions were analyzed by
physicalichemical methods. It has been found that F contains M 87 n-
paraffins, 12.4 isoparaffins and 0.6 monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (AH)
with a small admixture of~bicyclic AH; LP consists of 48.2 n-paraffins,
1.8 monocyclic AH and 50 of a concentrate of naphthene hydrocarbons.
Spectral analysis of P, LP and the fractions confirmed the small content

It vas determined that highly refined solid hydrocarbons obtained
from a deasphalted Tuymazy crude concentrate (b.p. > 350*) belong
to the methane series and are mainly normal paraffins 023 to CIO-
Solid hydrocarbons with m.p. > 65* contain about 35 percent i9omeric
methane hydrocarbons. There are 12 figures, 6 tableB. and 19 refer-

steam raising is a uniform load. Most works use batch
type steaming chambers of which there may be more than
ten at a single works. It is evident that if production
planning is not good a number of chambers may be heated
at the same time. As this is particularly difficult to
avoid/it is recommended to make up steam accumulators
from old fire-tube boilers or disused autoclaves. The
method of connecting a steam accumulator to a works
system including steaming chambers is illustrated
diagrammatically. Condensate from the heaters is
returned to a tank. Tht use of a steam accumulator

ABSTRACT: The influence of precipitations of zinc in the brickwork of
the lower portion of a blast-furnace shaft upon the condition
thereof is examined. It is noted that the precipitation of Zn and
compounds thereof cause increasing portions of the brickwork
of the upper portion of the shaft to be partially or totally resist-
ant to cooling, and destroy the brickwork in the lower portionof
the shaft, and that the processes by which these phenomena
occur are the following: 1) formation and precipitation of ZnO
in the brickwork in a clearly-defined crystalline form, 2) con-
densation of Zn in the brickwork and oxidation thereof in the
solid and liquid state to ZnO not crystalline in exterior appear-
ance. A listing is given of procedural steps with the purpose of
reducing the harmful effect of Zn on the firebrick and increas-

low-oxide fluxed sinter of the maximum basicity attainable without damage
to its mechanical strength; diminution in the upper limit of the size of the
Tashtagol ore being smelted to 35-40 mm, an increase in the size of the
sinter, with reduction of the 0-10 mm fraction to the minimum possible; and
reduction in theJintt,nsity of the peripheral gas flow without interference with
the evenness of the process, particularly when furnaces are run at high
pressure.

ABSTRACT: Considering the sea swell as a random process of successive waves which
in their height, period, and form vary significantly In time, its energy spectrum
formed by the spectroscopic density of wave ordinates to expressed as a sum of vari-
ous sinusoidal oscillations. Since the energy of the latter is proportional to
the square of the amplitude, the determination of the sea swell's energy spectrum is
equivalent to the determination of the amplitudes of elementary harmonics. Based on
the theory of random functions and considering variations of wave ordinates at a
certain point on the sea's surface, the energy spectrum is expressed as a function
of elementary amplitudes coordinated with its mathematical expectation. Taking
into account the actual energy translation of a three-dimensional wave acting in
various directions and using typical parametric characteristics for the frequency
and range of the spectrum, a sea-swell spectrum is calculated which shows good con-
formity with measurements made at wind velocities between force 3 and 7-8 (10 to

shown. Under certain natural conditions, the ordinates of the sea-swell spectrum
follow the X2-distribution. Expressions are given for the relationship between the
fiducial limit of X2, and between the spectrum ordinate and mathematical expectancy.
A graph represents.the fiducial limits, between which the ordinates of the sea-swell
spectrum can be found in 90% of occurrences. By the discussed method, structure

The author investigated the effect of streptomycin
on 140 cases of upper respiratory tuberculosis in the
A.M.N. Institute for Tuberculosis (observed since
April, 1946) and on 110 cases in the Moniti Institute,
Moscow (obsm-ed since July, 1947). The results of
treatzmnt are discussed separately for the two institutes.
Of the 140 cases in the A.M.N. Institute 41 received
10 to 40 g. streptomycin; most of the others recei-md
40 to 80 g. (0-5 to I g. daily in 2 doses given with a
12-hour interval). In 108 cases sputum was positive-,
13 patients %%vre seriously ill with bilateral widespread
pulmonary and upper respiratory disease. and I IS had
bilateral but not so widespread disease; 123 had ulcers
in the upper respiratory tract, 17 infiltrations of N-arying
