onset. Such treatment did not prevent excretion of H. pertusals; thus, it to recom-

ABSTRACT: Of the 20-odd methods -available7for -the- no-asurement-- of cardiac output
and coronary blood flow none completely satisfies the clinician, either because of
extreme complexitys inapplicability to Jimans; or low precision. A method was de-
~Vised for the aimultaneous investigation of central and peripheral hemodynamics in-1
volving inhalation radiocardiography using krypton (KrI85). 'rho patient breathes I

heart, liver, lungs). -Appropriate radiation counters are'applied at the pertinent
area. -By noting the time and duration of radioactivity the rate and amount of
blood flowing through the area is determined. Examination of healthy and sick
people with various pathological manifestations revealed that the raLitionship be-
tween the duration of blood flow in the arterial and venous portion of the systemic
andliepatic cimculation changes quite precisely- and differentially during cardio-
vascular and pulmonary-cardiac Insufficiencies as well as in hepatic cirrhosis. In
general, all parameters were found to be higher, thus indicating an increase in the
duration of blood flow (a slowing down) as compared with healthy controls. This
method also made it possible to elucidate the mode of action of some cardlovascu-
lar medicat ions . - ~ - Results showed th at - these - drugs - incre as a the of blood f low -
through one or several parts of the circulatory system often at the expense of de-
creasing it in other parts. This is probably achieved by increasin,3 the tone of
the vinules and the microtonus of the hepatic aortal system. Orig. art.. has., 4

ABSTRACT: The authors investigated the behavior of potassium icns
solutions of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) by th~",.
method of ion exchange by means of the radioactive indi-,,atoi,,

K and by the potentiometrio method by means of a potassiu'w-,

investigated by means of the cation exchanger KU-2 in the
Na form and by means of the anion exchanger AV-17 in the
C1 form. The results are listed in table 1. It was fo,,nd Thai,

ABSTRACT: This Author's Certificate introduces a manually operated booster designed
iprincipally for lifeboats. The unit includes a drive shaft located In a housing and
1driven by manual rockers through cranks. Fastened to the drive Ehaft is a bevel gear
1which interActs with a second bevel gear on the driven shaft. A contzol lever acts
dogs which pivot on axles In the housing. The installation is designed so that the
.;drive may be stopped positively and smoothly at any moment of operation. Two clutch
sections with oblique contacting faces are mounted on the drive shaft. One section
lis spring loaded and moves in the axial direction while the other is loosely mounted
And has peripheral teeth for selective interaction with the rotating dogs.
