The exchange was found to proceed aucording to the dissociation nechanism SN, after a certain Induction period. On the basis of these data the mechanism of Isotopic exQhange Is given. The magnitude of the activation energy (21.9 kcal/mole) suggests that the Fjo-N bonding is coval(int but it is weaker than that in the chromiwi complex. Compositionst storage temperatures, temperatures at which the polymer is precipitated, stabilization and physical prop- erties of' urea-fornaldehyde (u-f) solutions are suranarized. 'Stable solutions are defined as those in which the concentration is high, the stabilizing action being due to urea. The methods of prepara- tion are briefly described under the general headings of: (a) reac- tion of solid urea with aqueous CH 20, (b) absorption of gaseous CH20 in hot, concentrated solutions of ureat and (c) preparing a hot concentrated CH20 solution and mixing the latter with solid urea. The usual applications of u-f solutions are listed. Part I PERIODICAL: PrzemysX Chemiczny, v. 41, iioj 12, 1962, 681-684 TEXT: The present article is a review dealing with the .causes of the sensitivity of PVC to the -combined action of light 0 and air, and to the effects of elevated temperature, even in the absence of air and light. -The modern views concerning the structure of PVC and the mechanism of thermal decomposition are given. The lack of stability is due to the existence of weak spots on the macro- structure, such as double bonds, points.of branchinfr, and to remnants of initiator. In the absence of air the decomposition proceeds by an ionic-mechanism and is made possible by the initial loss of 11Cl and the resultant formation of conjugated double.bonds, ahich then permit cross-linking. In the presence of air the decomposition is accelerated and both cross-linking and oxidative degrada,,:ion take place, by a free-radical process. The article is limited to a descriptive presentatiA while phys- ios and safety are omitted. (Reference is made to an article In Wiadomos~ci Elektrotechniczne, 1960t No 3P pp 66 - 68, for the basic detcription of thermal reactors.) The first chapter of the article deals with the prin- ciples of reactor control; the definitions of neutron density and multi- plication constant are explained, as well as the four factors which inter- fere with the operational stability of a reactors a) fuel burn-up, b) in- troduction and withdrawal of test Instruments, test samples etc., c) tem.. peNure variations and d) reactor poisoning. The formation and effect of XG as a reactor poison is briefly explained, Further inp the methods of influencing reactivity are mentioneds control of neutron escape by means of a reflector and neutron absorrtion by means of 6 control rod. Card 1/2 Oy Cont3~ol and Regulation of Research Reactors P/024/60/000/07/01/001 The second chapter deals with the reactor control system. Pointing out that on principle neutron density is controlled, the author mentions the two means of measuring neutron density, i.e. counters and ionization cham- bers, and he lists the dirficulties encountered in such measurementi a) wide range required, b) external disturbances, c) irrf-gular distribution of neutron denuity. Further on, the amplifications -conversion and com- parator stages are men~ticpned and briefly explained. At the close of the article, the author lietij the fuqotions of control rods, which are emer- gency scramp control of -the rate of reaotion and compensation of disturb- ances such as fuel burn-ap, poisoning etc. There is I Figure. Errors of this approximation were estimated by the author. A system of kinetic equations was assumed in a,form given by X.A. Schultz (Ref. 1: Control of Nuclear Reac- tors and Power Plants. Chap, 31 Reactor Kinetics# New York 1955, Me Graw Hill Book Comp.) and this was linearized by inserting for the-,neutron'donsity function n (t) its initial value n(O). As a result of this operation the coefficients become constant# and the problem can be solved in terms of n(t) tor a given initial reacti- Card 1/4 27318 P/046/60/005/011/007/018 The error estimation of D249/1)303 vitya In order to estimate the deviation of the linearized system from the original onep the general shape of the equations was In- vestigated Ili terms of the th6ory of differential ine uations by applying a theorem given by T.
