Abstract: The outbreak of.infe2tious encephalorayelitis in
foxes caused an exteasive epizocty among the animals,
especially among the young ones in the age group of
1-3 months. Vectors and distributors of the infection
were probably adult foxes who have recovered from the
disease. A virus was extracted from one of the sick

foxes after his.death. By means of serial subarachnoidal
inoculations of the extracted virus to dogs (15 to 46 day old
puppies), it was ponsible to adapt it to their nervous
system, After 6 subinoculations, infection and death were
caused by the inoculations in 100 percent of the puppies.
The clinical and pw,,hologic-anatomical characteristics of
the process describi!d above correspond to the characteris-
tics of infectious ;'Iepatitis in dogs which have been 41es-

Abstract: The authors have established the fact that the.epizooty

the source of the disease. When experimental animals

from just slaughtered healthy Pigs, 71.4 percent
of them fell sick and secreted viruses. When two
strains of the Aueski virus were used in intracere-
bral inoculations of mice, they caused the animals
to become sick (encephalitic syndrome and itch),
beginning with the third subinoculation 6 hours
after incubation, cnd after 8 to 16 hours, death of
.the animals followed. Hematological examination
revealed that the eXflicted animals are perpetually
suffering from leu(:ocytosis. The leucocytic formula
was characterized by neutrophilia (88.8 to 92.8 per-
cent), lymphopenia (4-7 to 6.2 percent), eosinophilia
and abasophilia, at; well as the presence of plasmo-
cytic type cells and changes of the po-lynuclears and

which has two o-perating systems of coke ovens:

Abstract: It Was Mind that in system (b) the coke yield
increased from 73 .7% to 74.7%; that fact was ex-
plained by a decrease in volatile matter. In sys-
tem (b) the yield of tar declined by (11%), the
gas yield increased (by 4.5%) and the yield. of
benzene increased (-by 10.6fo). A shortening of
carbonization time in the system (b) caused a low-
ering in the yield of dry coke 40 millimeter
size by 2.7% and its 10-20 millimeter fractions
by-76%. The nature of the coke gas also changed:
its caloric value decreased by 1.48%, the CH4 cOn-
tent decreased by 3.67fo, the 00 content increased
by 8.39%, the coatent of free C in tar increased
by 25.11% and that in pitch by 5.131o.

Seven.cases of a typical syndrome of psychic:: symptoms ending with death in coma
without the ketonic acidaemia in patients with diabetes were observed. The course
of the diabetes on the whole was~rather mild. In no case was a tendency to ketosis
observed. The reaction to insulin was weak. The diabetes had always been present
for some time when the depression developed; the patients avoided the persons from
their environment; there appearedi: hallucinations, restlessness, marked insomnia,
aversion 'to food and vomiting. Later on Of Ia insomnia passed usually into sleepiness,
finally coma appeared leading to death. The author' is of the opinion that it was a
special form of diabetes inwhich c!1-)maappeared due neither to the ketonic acidaernia,
nor to hypoglycaemia, but as a result Of Vie localization of lesions in the vicinity
'of the hypothalamus (by the author called.:,Ithird coma) . At necropsy only in 2
cases,were very inconsiderWe, sclerotic lesions found in the cerebral vessels;
such lesions as are found were ,usually it'. older -persons-. the third case concerned
a 4 1 --year-old, individual. The wathor sta:4es that although there are,no sufficient
proofs that these symptoms form. a, strictly defined syndrome connected with the
course of diabetes; neverthelens a characteristic course of the sufficiently defined
persistently repeated analogical symptoms, both concerning the course of diabetes I
Itself and, the psychic condition., is a su!1icient reason for discussing this problem.
