The intraocular, pressure Is stebilized by means of a homeostatic reflex which con-
trols aqueous secretion and angle resistance. Aqueous secretion decreases when
any autogenous or exogenous factor attempts to raise the ocular tension; conversely,
any attempt to decrease the tension is followed by a rise in angle resistance. This
homeostatic reflex Is controlled by the sensitive nerve elements found in the trabe-
cular meshwork of the angle, which send inbirceptive signals to the cortex, dience-
phalon, and the ciliary processes. When pathologic Interference disturbs the nor-
functioning of the homeo *static reflex, glaucoma results.

Abstract; [Authors' English sunmary madified],A review of literature data
on posterior dislocation of thc shoulder is followed by the description of
two observed cases. kiong cases of shoulder dislocation observed over a five
year period, the incidence of rosterior dislocation was 2.02 per cent. In
contrast to literature data, the opinion is presented that posterior di5-
location can be recognized by a thorough clinical (physical) examination.

Buchareett Studii si Cercetari de Inframicrobiologie, Vol 14,

Abstract [Authors' stwunary modified]: Describes two
ci wj.-uh 100 %, morbi ity in a children's community (1 to 3
yearolds), In one of the foci, ECHO virus type 7 was isolated
from the pharynx and feces of 55% of the children. In the second
focus Coxsackie A virus alone or associated with ECHO virus was
isolated from the9pharynx and feces of 61% of the chilaren tested.
The second epidemic focus was characterized by complete absence of
nervous symptomatology, possibly because of interference between
the two viruses at the level of the central nervous system. Thus
a possible enteroviral etiolog should be considered for non-bacte-
ly
rial epidemic respiratory infoctions even if associated with con-
junctivitis.

PERIODICAL: Izvestiya Akademii nauk SSSR. Otdeleniye khimicheskikh naukq

ABSTRACT: In the present papOr the hydrogenation!of tertiary alcohols
and ditertiary glyools with two isopropyl or tertiary butyl
groups at the carbi)n atom in the presence of molybdenum sulfide
is carried out. By means of this hydrogenation hydrocarbons
with an equal,or usually even lower, number of carbon atoms
could be obtained.,.In the case of,compounds with tertiary
-butyl radicals (onn or two), these'radi
cals split off in
.
the dehydrogenation process while hydrocarbons were formed
which contain 4 - 13 carbon atoms less than the initial prod-
ucts. Analogous aloohols and glycols -with isopropyl groups
remained stable d=ing hydrogenation and hydrocarbons with
the same carbon structure as the oxygen-containing initial
produoto were formod. By:means of hydrogenation a high yield
of 2-met-hyl-3-icopj!opylootane arid.299--dimethyl-3,8-diiso-
propyldecane could be gained from the compounds of 2-raethyl-

3,8. The synthesia of the individual compounds and the hydro-
genation reactionti are described in the experimental part.
A survey on the 'fists containing also the properties of the
.. compounds is given in table 2. The individual substances were
identified by means of infrared spectra and elementary analyses
(Pigs 1-3). The elementary analyses ivere carried out by T. Leki
in the analytical'laboratory.of the Chair of Synthetic Motor
bacls of the Hig~hhcr Education School of CMamical Technology ia xt-ague.
The infrared spectra were-taken at the Chair of Special Analyti-

&gineor L. Novotni and A. Kchutova whom the authors thank
for their work. There are 3 figures, 2 tables, and 12 referen-
