'Title The Treatment of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia with,1,4-di-

Abstract In 21 patients with.chronic myelogenous leukemia, myleran
therapy gave excellent results in 13, caused temporarj im-
provement in 4 and vas ineffective in 4 vho had an e=Lcer-
bation of the disease process. The best results were
achieved in those casesvhich had not been treated previous-
1y; their remission lasted over a year. A long cource of
supportive therapy was needed in previously treated, far
advanced cases. Only one patient had transient thrombocy~
topenia with hemorrhagic diathesis. A dose of 4-6 mg -:1.d.
was used. Because of the compound's relatively long

quency. The number of deaths was reduced from 5 (of I I non-treated children) to
2 (of 35 treated infants) in the age group 0 to 3 months, from 6 among 32 untreated
to 3 of 46 treated infants of I to 6 months, and from 8 of 71 non-treated children
to 0 of I I treated ones in the age group of 6 to 12'months. The children are soor.
accustomed to the treatment and do not protest. The greatest difficulty is the
construction of the aspirator, which can be connected to a water-jet pump.

Abstract: equation donstants have,been determined for the
systems I-II0 I-iII91 II IV. These.equations are
not applicable to the h7ghly asymetric systems
I-IVp III-IV and II-IV* The complete equilibrium
curve for the systems I-IV, III-IV has been plotted
in accordance with the experimental data with the
aid of the Sketcherd-Hamer equation. Only the
Margules equation can be applied in calculating
the quaternary system* The Margules constant for
the II-IV system has been determined by the indl-
reet Carlson-Coburn method (ancording to the Batu-

Abs Jour: rated vapor isotermia pressure-composition relation).
Various possibilities of calculating the equilibrium
of the quaternary system are discussed. A new cal-
culating methodp developed by the authors is reported.
It consists in the following; the constants indis-
pensable to the calc;ulation and pertaining to tri-
ternary systemsp have been calculated from the
experimental measurements of the quaternary system
equilibrium data, with the application of an equa-
tion, containg activity coefficient logarithms.
Although the new method calls for the conducting of
one measurement for the quaternary system, it
eliminates the measuring and calculating of triter-
nary systems. The method is simple and produces
accurate results.

mignetograph base line and the magnetic moment of a magnet obtained
absolute measurements of the horizontal component of the earth's
