pp 1146-1149
Abstract: [Authors' English summary] Authors report the re-
sults of their treatiment of barbiturate poisonin,- with the
method of Carl Clemensen from Copenhagen durina 1958-196-0.
For tho 18 patients treated by this method there were no fa-
talities, and two cases where the patients remained uncon-
scious for 6--7 days, even though the, dosage taken exceeded
the lethal dose. Authors believe that this method should be
commonly used as the most effective of all the methods re-
ported. There are 10 references, of iiiiich 3 are Polish and
the others Ifestern.

The content of diphtheria antibodies of retroplacental blood immediately after
birth and in the umbilical blood has been de(ermined. The level of antibodies
was evaluated by the authors' own tochniqud based on Roemer's method. The
presence of diphtheria antibodies In the mother's blood was found In 72.6% or the
117 cases examined, whereas 49.5% of the newborns' blood samples showed the
presence of diphtheria antibodies at a level higher than 0,01 antitoxin unit/m 1, (IVj 7)

1~ Investigations were carried out on mucoprotein, protein C, antistreptolysin 0 and
k antihyaluronidase In the serum. The conclusion is that these Investigations are a
valuable auxiliary method in diagnosis and evaluation of the activity of a rheumatic
process. The raised level of mucoprotein and the presence of protein C suggests
an inflammatory process while the raised level of antistreptolysin 0 or antihya-
i. luronidase speaks for the preceding streptococcal infection. The finding of normal
V. mucoprotein content, absence of protein C and a low level of antibodies particular-
ly in repeated tests at the onset of the disease in untreated cases speak against the
diagnosis of rheumatic fever. ViHorovi - Brno (VU, 2, 4, 6, 19*)

The sinus rhythm acceleration (90-120/min. ) Is ascertained most frequently. In
'the majority of the 19 cases examined and particularly in severe cases the ST seg-
ment is lowered and the T wave deformed. These changes disappear in convales-
cence and probably they do not depend on lesions of the myocardium. At the mo-
~ment of the tonic contraction there appear acceleration of sinus rhythm, Lncon-
siderable deviation of the QRS electrical axis to the left, change of the P wave
alike P 'pulmonalet, and continuous equiphase vibrations due to electrical currents

Title An Investigation of the Electric Conductivity of Zinc Oxide
orig Pub Bull. Acad. polon. sci. Ser. sci. Chim., gool. et geogr., 15%,
6, No 4,, 245-249, xix
Abstract A study was made of the electric conductivity 6 ) of specimens
of ZnO prepared in various manners, as functions of the tem-
perature and gas atmosphere. Measurements of 6 were carried
out with the aid of a linear bridge and amplifier at 50
cycles per second. For the purpQue of varification theS'df
many specimens was measured by the Miller method at frequencies
up to 160 kes. It was eetablished that when the specimens are
heated to a temperature of 10000 C the frequency dependence
of 6 disappears.
If the measurements of 6 at increased teLmorature follow dir-
ectly the cooling of the specimen, then the curve in 6 = f

of electric conductivity E = 1.83 to a temperature of approx-
imately 4250 C and P, = 2.56 ev above approximately 4250 C.
When the specimen was kept for one day in air at room tem-
perature, the curve In 6 = f (1/T) had three straight-line
sections: up to 2500 C with E!z'214 ev, from 250 to 2750C with
E-~-- 0, and above 2750C vith E = 3.36 ev. When the specimen
was kept in air for a week, the dependence of 1n 6 of 1/T was
even more complicated.
When heated to 6000C in vacuum, the conductivity increases
greatly and the curve of 4 is almost parallel to the tempera-
ture axis. The oxygen decreases 6 greatly, but not to the
initial value. When sintering the specimens in air at a tem-
perature above 12000C, has the following activation energies:
up to 4000C, E = 0.02 ev; above 4WOC, E = 1.5 ev. -- Yu.N.
