Abstract-. the glass is melted and flows in a stream onto a
rapidly rotating disk made of fire clay, on the
surface of which are radially directed canals.
The melted glass, under the effect of centrifugal
force., Is directed along the canals to the edge
of the disk and.. according to the gradient,, forms
a fiber of one or another length. To decrease the
.brittleness of the fiber and to keep dust in the
room from the fiber, a special oil emuslsion Is
applied. A table Is cited of properties of glass

Three strains of R. burneti isolated from the first Q fever epidemic in Poland (Z
strains from blood of patients and onq from sheep wool) were compared with a
standard strain (Henzerling). No mirked differences in pathogenicity for guinea-
pigs and chicken embryos were do monst rated. 'By means of complement-fixation
and cross-absorption tests, using sera of Immunized guinea-pigs, a considerable
difference between the standard strain and strains isolated (507, 755 and 801) was
found. The antigens of the latter were far less sensitive than that of the Henzerling
strain, even in relation to homologous sera. Their sensitivity (and especially that
of strain 755) was mardkedly increased it 5-fold concentrations were used. They
'were less sensitive In relation to human convaleEcent sera as well, though with
infected sheep sera they gave positive results at the same titre "as did the Henzer-

been infected with Rickettsias of a typical louse-torn

Scrological examinations of the animals were mde periodi-

RSET in the animal organs did not differ from that of
RETL with the exception of white mice (to a certain
degree) and in particularp infected field rats that had
a limited time allowance of 24 days for excreting ESET,
and of 15 days for excreting REM. No serological dif-
ferences were noted in the blood of both aninvil groups.
The authors do not agree with the postulate that RSET
accupies an intermediate place between REM and rickett-
