Title : The Role of the Emitter Shape in-Cold Emission Research

Abstract Using a cold-emission microscope; the authors have observed
the variation in the electron images of nickel and iron
points, due to changes in the incandescent temperature and
applied voltage. It is observed that in the case of weakly
heated points the electron emission comes from the corners
of the ribs of the single-crystal point. This is explained
by the fact that owing to surface migration of the atoms or
to plastic deformation in the corners of the crystal, the
electrons accumulate and produce alocal increaeo in the
electric field intensity. The resultant distribution in
the current density reppoduceo on the electronic imagon the
shape of the surface of the single crystal, forming the end

ABSTRACT: It is found that by lowering the t'emperature of the environment, one
can increase'the pumping speed of a Bayard-Alpert (B- A) gage and thus improve
the ultimate vacuum. At liquid air temperature, the pumping speed is many times
higher than at room temperature, the ultimate pressure being smaller by two order

of magnitude, and a further Increase of pumping speed is observed when passing
to liquid-helium temperature. The B- A gage in continuous operation uses up
200 cm3 liquid air per hr. It is pointed out that the use of B- A gage at liquid-air
temperature is most suitable W-bexhaving to produce an ultrabigh vacuum within a
relatively small volume, e. g., in glass tubes of field emission microscopes. The

317 cases of tetanus reported in the province of Poznaji during the period 1945-1956
were analysed. Among them, males of preschool and school age prevailed. The
lethality amounted to 467

Seventy male and female subjects of all age groups. who had suffered from Wee-
tious hepatitis 3 or 4 yr. previously. were. submitted to routine examinations which

Abstract A theory is a1ven. for the thermal emission of binary
and triple ordered alloys. The therrial emission has an
anomly near the order-disorder transition p6int. It is
found that the constant A in the Richardson formula for
ordered alloys is a function of the far-order parameter.
Ln the case of alloys havin(~ a non-cubic lattine, aniso-
tropy of the emission current is observed.
