TITLE: Analysis of the motion of a ring-core system compressed by detonation.

SOURCE: Polska akademia nauk. Bulletin. Serie des sciences techniques, v. 14 no. 6,
1966, 587-595
TOPIGTAGS: detonation wave, compressive stress, pressure effect
ABSTRACT: The authors consider a new method for producing dynamic pressures of tens
g a t, i k
of millions of atmospheres. The method consists of compression by implodin C
walled pipe with a core having an outside diameter less than the inside diameter of
,pipe
the pipe. During -the first compression phase before the inside diameter of the :
equttls that of the core, the work done by external pressure is transfonried into
kinetic energy In the second phase the whole system is compressed and the accwlu-
lated kinetic ener is simultaneously trausformed into internal energy. The spcdlfi~
case of a graphite, core in an incompressible pipe is studied. It is assumed tbat
.both are n-o-nv-Ts-rous liquids.. Expressions are derived for the radial motion of this

system under the effect of a constent external pressure po. The densit- of the pipe
material is assumed to be constant i-rhile that of the internal core depends only on
time (is independent of position). It is further assumed that pressure p0 is so
great (of the order of pressures in a detonation wave front) that the motion of the
material in both elements conforms to the hydrodynamic laws for a nonviscous liquid.
The density, internal pressure and %relocity of the pipe and core elements are det-2r-
mined, The results indicate 'that the assumptions are not realistic since velocity
is independent of time and the moment when notion ceases cannot be determined. The
solu'Lion indicates that the radius of the core may reach zero so that the whole mass
is concentrated at the axis. Actually the shockwave is reflected when it reaches
the axis and the following rarefaction wave may fracture the core material as is
ntly observed in experiments. The concept of hcmogendous density must be given
fre~jue
up to bring the results into agre ement with experimenta.1 data. Orig. art. has: It

Abstract:
[Authorsl En-lish summary modified] Three batches
of Polish Di-Te prophylactic adsorbed on aluminum hydroxide
gel, which is Icnown to be subject to spontaneous aging,"
were stored at 4 and 100G. Tests showed that In the early
stages, amorphous aluminum hydroxide was present along with
the crystalline form, that basic aluminum salts were present
in all batches, ano ~hat-"aging" proceded more rapidly at
10 than at 40C. Kongo-red adsorption and rentganographic
and olootronosoopio O'bsorvations suggest that "shrinking"
of the adsorbent particles and "shifting" of the adsorbed
active substances may take place with time. The six (6) re-
ferences comprise two (2) Polish and four (4) Western sour-IS.

Warsaw, ]Kedycyna Dosiviadezalna i Ylikrobiologia, Vol 15, No 31,

Abstract: [.A:uthors' English summary *modified] In prior works
the authors found that vaccines adsorbed on aluminum hydroxide
enhance the oxidation' of indigosulfonic acid by hydrogen per-
oxide, and that the velocity of 6xidation depended on the
ag a" (storage time) and type of vaccine tested. This in-
vestigation covered 4 adsorbed vaccines: Diphteria toxoid,
'combined Di/Te vaccine, Typhoid-Partyphoid vaccine, and com.-
bined Ty-Para Ty-Tetanus.'vaceine. First two proved better
c;italysts at the later, while the last two at earlier ages,
and authors suggest catalytic reactions as auxiliary bidlo-
gical method of testing activity of adsorbed vaccines. one
