ABSTRACTs Protection of light soil from mind erosion in recently cultiv-
ated virgin soil areas in northern Kazakhstan, Siberia, and
Altay is a problem that occupies agricultural researchers. An
light soil dries quickly and is easily blown off by the wind,
the entire crop or part of it may be lost, ninoe the soil then
loses most of the nourishing substances needed by the plants,
When such soil is properly cultivated and protected, crops
are very satisfactory. Various methods havo been applied to
stop wind erosion. Important is a rational distribution of
the grounds (plowland, meadows, forests)j and mechanical cult-
ivation should be performed when the soil in moist to avoid
clouds of dust. Experiments with rove of high stemmed plants
(corn, ounflowerl mustard) used as partitions between other
crops give very satisfactory results. The 'beat protection was
achieved with wooded belts between fields. If correctly ar-
ranged, they protect the soil from winds ani the crops from

of the angle of twist of the end section of a wing on the velocity bead
and the lifting force coefficient, and the measure of the longitudinal
statistical stability with respect to the overload and the velocity.
The calculated results are compared with flight data. It is concluded
that: elastic twisting of the Wing decreases the longitudinal moment
and the balance angles of the rudder deviation by amoiints proportional
to q; 2) the values of the longitudinal statistical stability with
respect to the overload and the velocity also decreane; 3) the forces on
the control stick for the rudder height in steady flight decrease with a

A report in a symposium published by the Tomsk University Press,
Tomsk. In 1%6 and 1948j some data on the biolo[7. of Lake Sartlanchik
and on the small Karapuz River (in the region of Lake Sartlan, Novosibirsk
Oblast) was collected relating to water reservoirep chemical composition
of the water, flowering plantsj and composition of the pbytoplankton.
In 1946., the phytoplankton of Sartlanchik was poor in quality but rich in
quantity. Predominating were green algae; more weakly developing wore blue-
green algae. The diatomaceous algae were exclusively bottom and littoral
forms. In 1948, the blue-green algae predominated. The quantity of organ-
isms per liter reached 1302800; here, up to 3% were due to bottom and lit-
toral diatoms The summer phytoplankton of the Karapuz Riverl both in 1946
and 1948, was poor in quality and quantity and was represented mainly by
diatoms. The number of plant organisms per liter did not exceed 21,635.

Abstract: For a period of 6 days 5 ng dooes of 15-azauracil were
injected in mice, beginning within 24 hours after intra-
peritoneal grafting with the ascitic cancer of Ehrlich.
Comparative eirmltaneous studies, under identical
conditions, were rade with 6- mereaptopurine. Judging
from the survival rate of the aninale, both preparations
inhibited the growth of the tumor to the same degree.

The content of loosely-bound S in extracts from neoplastic tissues is several times
greater than that in similarly obtained extracts from normal or embryonic tissue.
It is concluded from experimental evidL%nce thAt the factors containing loosely.-
bound S reduce the activity of liver catalase of the hoot Inoculated with the malig-
nant turnour and that they are closely related or Identical to onc of the so-called
'accelerating' fattors which speed up the malignant process. A drop in activity of
liver catalose in healthy animals and an acceleration of the malignant process have
also been noted upon administration of elementary S. (11.5,16)
