Examinations were carried out before and after training in the ship,

before flight. Postflight examination was begun fifteen minutes after
-landing and was continued for. the first four days after the f light and aleD
'two weeks later.
After landirig, the cosmonauts were active, looked somewhat excited.
and complained of general fatigue. They were found to have hyperemia
of the mucosa.of the upper respiratory tract and conjunctivitis.
Komarovi s weight dropped by 2. 679, Feoktistoy' a weight dropped by.

be -due to water and fat. loss. Neurological examination revealed a light

cosmonauts can be attributed t,o individual differences. [W.A. Noi- 22;

During preliminary selection, the medical commissiori was given
documents describing anamnesis data, general and physical development,
and medical treatment in the preceding year.. After familiarization with
these documents, nearly half the applicants 'were rejected due to therapeutic!
status or poor eyesight. - During preliminary ambulatory examinations.- "I,
medical specialists (therapists, otolaryngologists, neuropathologists,
surgeons) analyzed blood, urine, EKG' a during rest and after exercise,.
x-ray films of thoracic organs and nasal accessory sinuses, and con-
ducted vestibular and other functional tests. In some cases,
spinal x-rays. pressure chamber exposure. etc. *.were conducted.
Rejections during the first examination phase were high. The main
reasons for rejection were eae nose, and throat ailments, neurocircu-
latory dystonia, and vestibulo-autonomic instability.
During the stationary phase, an expanded program of clinical,
physiological, and specialized tests was used. From 25 to 50% of the
candidates who had passed the first phase of examinations were reject"

ABSTRACT: The author joins the integral notion of Kolmogorov f-Ref 1_7,
especially the idea that the representation of the Integrand
as the product of a point function and a set function is an
unnecesnary reatriction. Starting from this idea the author
defines a generalized Stieltjes integral, formulates the
conditionG of exIstence, and proven the principal properties.
An example shall confirm the fiuitableness of the introduction
of the new notion. The paper untitains 12 theorems, 4 lemmas,

TITLE: The Upper Jurassic Flora of the Southern Re~,,ions of the USSR
(0 verkhneyurskoy flore yuzhnykh rayonov SSSR)
PERIODICAL: Doklady Akademili nauk SSSR, 1958, Vol 123, 1Tr 5,
pp 925 - 928 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: Macro-remains of Jurassic flora rarely occur in the Ukraine,
Crimea, Caucasis, and Middle Asia (Srednyaya Aziya). Even
where continental oedimento are prevalent (kliddle Asia) only
one locality rich in fossil flora in known: the villages of
Galkino and Nl'khaylovka (southeast end of the Karatau Mountain
Range) (Refs 2,8-10). The rocks which contain this flora
are assigned to the Lower Jurassic on the basis of Lower
Jurassic plants (Ref 10). On the contrary, the finely bedded,
limy shales, containing plant, fish, and insect remains, were
considered as Middle (Ref 6) and even Upper Jurassic (Ref 2).
Since the well known Upper Jurassic leafy plant remains of
the southern part of the USSR are lacking, elimination of
this unclearness was impossible. In spite of previous un-
Card 1/3 successful attempts to extract spores and pollen, the authors

weresuccessful, (sample donated by A. I. Turutanova-Ketova,
village of Mikhaylovka). The pollen consisted of 94.6%
Brachyphyllum (of various species, Fig i), and 5.4% Pinaceae
and Cupresmccae together with rare Coniopteris spores. The
authors compare this with similar pollen assemblages of the
USSR (Refs 1, 3-7, 11,12). They arrive at the following
conclusions regarding the age of the caledolomites of Karatau:
1) They belong to the Upper Jurassic according to 0. P. Yaro-
shenko. 2) The firn and Ginkgoaceae declined strongly around
the boundary between the 'Middle and Upper Jurassic and were
replace.d by an abundant development of conifers with awl
or scaly formed needles. At the same time Bennettites with
leather-like leaves developed. 3) The origin of these floral
changes may be found in the dry cliTiate, which prevailed over
southern Europe, Kazakhstan, and Middle and Central Asia
during the Upper Jurassic. 4) In the regions of Eurasia
farther to the north (Ref 1), a distinction betwoen the flora
of the Middle and Upper Jurassic is scarcely recognizable;
there, the climate remained moderately arm and damp. 5) In

Abstract : Drainage of the surface of Kh&W-,o Island is followed by
the appearance on the surface of a peculiar complex of
swamp and swamp-meadow vegetation, peat-gleyey and turf-
gleyey soils. Asthe area dries out this vegetation is
replaced by more xerophilous meadow and steppe groups.
