TITLE: The Properties of a Dust Layer on Filter Bags (Svoygtva pyle-

PERIODICAL: 5b. materialov po pyleulavlivaniyu v tevetn. metallurgii.
Moscow, Metallurgizdat, 1957, pp Z51-259
ABSTRACT: Laboratory equipment was used at Gintsvetmet to investi-
gate: a) The reasons for the effectiveness of shaking, reverse
air blow, and deformation of the fabric (bending of the fabric
without dynamic stresses and reverse air blow) in breaking up
the dust layer (DL) on fabric (F) and removing dust from F;
b) the properties of DL and increase in F resistance when dust-
laden. The majority of experiments were conducted with mixed
F (wool and kapron) and with dusts consisting of Pb-oxide sub-
limates (particle sizes of the order of 0.1 micron). The resu'.-ts
obtained were checked. on the same laboratory equipment against
the gases of a shaft furnace at a secondary Cu plant. The con-
clusions indicate: 1) In periodic cleaning, deformation of the
Card 1/2 F iq the primary and most important factor in destroying DL;
SOV/137-58-10-20691
The Properties of a Dust Layer on Filter Bags
periodic reverse.blow of F is useful; Z) complete removal of dust is imprac-
tical with filter F of the present design, as it would lead to -5% transmis-
sion of (lust when the F resistance is - 80 mm HZO; 3) resistance of dusty
F depbnds uponsthe condition of the dust aggregates; 4) continuous deforma-
tion of F during the period of dust accumulation is of marked significance in
the functioning of bag filters. In industrial bag filters, deformation of the F
is not organized and may occur due to pulsation of the gas flow.

TIZLE; The Influence of BismutObn Dislocation Density in Germanium
Single Crystals
.PERIODICAL: Fizika tverdogo tGla,1959,Vol1,1?r8j PP 1304-1307 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: ft preaent paper reports on results of investigations concern-
ing dialocation density In bismuth- or antimony-alloyed ger-
_manium%rystalb; the results of meau 1Y_ ements of the electron
ration (from the Hall effect)7and the lifetime of non-
equilibrium holes by the photomaFe-toelectric method are also
discussed. Dislocations can be detected only in certain crys-
tal faces in etche4 pits of germanium crystals . For this pur-
pose the authors chose the plane (III). Production and etching
of the germanium crystals are briefly described. Dislocation
density was determined by counting the etched pits under the
microscope. Up to a certain concentration the density of etch-
ed pits in crystals containing various impuritief. is nearly
equal (500 - 1000 cm72) and does not differ fron the dialoca-
tion density in pure crystals grown under the same conditions.
In this domain impurities do not in-416'luence the formation of

influence upon dislocation density in the case of antimony,
whereas an increase in bismuth concentration up to
2,10 16 em-3,immediately causes dislocation density to rise by
several Iorders (5.10 6 _107 am- 2). The paper also contains pho-
tographs of longitudinal sections of crystals which were alloy-
ed with antimony and bismuth up to equal concentrations. Im-
purity concentration increases toward the lower-edge of the
crystals. The cast piecescontEining antimony exhibit the
usual etched pit distribution with a characteristic pattern
of plastid slip. In the domain of increased dislocation den-
sity the etched pits are arranged chainlike. The largo pits
probably form by enclosure of excess impurity in the form of
a separate phase. Structure can be disturbed in a similar
manner by introduction of some other impurities (ironj mangan-
eseq nickel), An essential fact is the so-called "constitu-

front, which is connected with an accumulation of the impurity
separated by the growing crystal. The present paper confirma
the results of an earlier paper by-V. G. Alekoeyev et al
(Rof 1). The reason for the q~fferentlgecom~ination rates in
the concentration range 5-10 ~' - 1-10 cm-2 before the sudden
dislocation density rise has not yet been found. The impuri-
ties forming effective recombination centers (nickel, iron,
cobalt, manganese) certainly cannot cause the above difference.
Thereforep the affect of some other impurities or the formation
of other lattice defects may be assumed. The authors thank
Professor S. G. Yalashnikov for having suggested the problem
and discussed the results. There are 2 figures and 9 references,
3 of which are Soviet.
