Abstract : From 970 ml of unpurified juice of tobacco leaYea infec-
ted with the potato virus, 2 ga of antigen vere obtained
by means of lyophilic dessication to a powder state.
The lyopholized antigen was preserved as a powder in the
refrigerator, without deterioration in its quality, for a
much longer period of time than the liquid serum.

Abstract White mice were experimentally enfected with typhoid pneumonia. They
were treated per os with various doses of a water suspension of biomycin.
The biomycin. had a defihite antibiotic effect~oa the treated animals.
It brought about a decrease in the severity aiid distribution of patho-
morphological changes occuring in the lungs of the mice, and supliressed
the reproduction of the typhoid bacilli. Ito action, however, was not
coqplete since the typhoid microorganisms coruld still be cultured from
the treated animals' organs even after 30-40 days. The results of
the experiments are presented on two charts. No references are cited.

isolated by him. An investigation of the antibacterial properties of
the new antibiotic indicated that the spectrum of its action does not
differ frt= the antibacterial spectrum of streptonVtin. It has been
successfully applied in the therapy of puWnary and other fcius of
tuberculoois. The calcium chloride ccciplex of globisporin has been

Comstittee of Antibiotics of the Scientific Medical Council of the Ministry

This article, published on the occasion of the Second All-Union Conferen-
ce of Antibiotics, deals with the progress made in the Soviet UaLon in the
field of antibiotics. The author reports that'. at the First Comference, only
60 papers were presented, while at the Second Conference, over 250 wore
scheduled.
The All-Union Institute of Antibiotics of the Ministry of Health 'USSR
concentrates on technological problems, It studies the microorganisms pro-
ducing antibiotics, perfects methods of production, and develops new pre-
parations.
The Institute for the Search of New Antibiotics of the Academy of Scien-
cea USSR, has as its task the development of new antibacterial, antiviral.,
and anticancerous preparations,
