779. SYSTEMIC AND LOCAL USE OF SULPHONAMIDES INTHE TRE.ATMENT
OF TRACHOMA (Russian text) - Ershkovich A. 1. - zu.orrALNT.
-----------
1956, 5 (293-294)
Two groups of children with uncomplicated trachoma (30 in each) wert- under ob-
servation. The ages rarged from 3 to 15 yr. One group was treated with sulph-
onamides locally, and the other both locally and systemically. For local instil-
lation a 30176 solution of albucid (5 times a day) was used and sulphidine (sulpha-
pyridine) ointment was ui3ed for massage. White streptom.-rciz was given in doses
of 0.04-0.05 g./kg. body weight per day. The whole course :if treatment consist-
ed of 5 cycles each made up of 5 days' atreptomycin medical-ion and 3 days' inter-
val. The trachomatous process responded to treatment eitliattly ra,pidl~- in both
groups. No particular difference with respect to effectivenetis of treatment could
be noted In the 2 groups of patients and it is therefore recommended that in un-
compftcated trachoma topical 30% albucid be ueed alone. (S)

TEXT: The published work on the various typeo
of angular d istributions of charged particles in the Van Allen
(radiation) belts is reviewed. It is shown that the degree and
the nature o f the anisotropy of the particle distribution are
not constant in space (they vary away 'froid the earth) or in time
(quiet perio de or disturbances)* The possibility of the a.ppearance
of unstable plasma in the upper atmosphere, related to the strong
anisotropy o f the angular distribution of electrons, is discussed.

ABSTRACT: The motion of charged particles in the vicinity of neutral points
discussed, using two- and three-dimonsional models. The neutral point is aho~;'_All to be
a regular singularity in the magnetic field and exists on the boundaries of the
Ymagnetosphe e where the solar wind interacts with the geoinagnetic field. Two types of
fields are consi.dered;

tekhnika, 1960, Nr 1, pp 14~,_133 (USSR)
ABSTRACT: Simultaneous bending and bev,,Iling of profiles in a
single die has been introduced to avoid the need for
large dies otherwise required to calibrate the diameter
and bevel the flange in making ziafi~TramiDs from profilea
with large sizes of the cross-section. Thij3 procass is
theoretically and experimentally investi;gated by the
authors. Aluminium alloy unequal angles of 75 x 50 X 12 mm
were bent about the short flange, whilst the long flange
was bevelled. The forcing load is first found theoretic-
ally on the assumption that plastic deformation arises at
a relatively small flexure of an element. A power
relation is assumed between stress and strain in the
process of elasto-plaatic bending. The total forcing load
is the sum or the load to carry out the bending of the
Card 1/3 profile, the load to twist the flange to be: bevelled, the

load to bend the bevelled flange in its raot section and
the load due to friction. The separate contributions
are evaluated, making use, in nart, of some well-known
formulae of Nadai. The design of the die facilitates
the separation of the load components which largely
arise in different sections of the die. The experitneital
work was carried out on an "Amsler" tensile testing
machine where the diagram of the forcing loads was
recorded. The comparison with analysis shows that, on
the assumption of a friction coefficient of 0.15, the
total measured load at 7,500 kg was 12-5% larger than
the total predicted load. The largest err-or of the
theory arose in the zone of bevelling in the die. The
process of bending of a profile, for example an angle,
by the thinning or upsetting of the flange edge can
also be accomplished by forcing through a (lie with
I~ard 2/3 suitable inserts. Such an insert is shown in Fig 5 and

a brief analysis is given to determine the forcing load
in this type of die from the basic geometry of the
