Its original lattice is stable, the constant equals 39-0.06 3 at atmospherioc pressure. The density of the new phase is 2:535 glem. and the discontinuity in the specific volume during the transformation is 14-Z/~- Allowing for the faot that the distance between the oppositely charged ions increases by Y14 the lattice constant of the new phase is found to be 3.35 L 71hen the pressure is released* the new phase is usually maintained.
