of corpu3cular flows are displayed in the distributL on of the hydrogen
emiusion both in space and time. Ob3ervations showed that the probability
of the appearance of 11., increanes in the time before midnight . Hydrogen
emission may be observed both concentrated at the horizon and throughout
the sky. In the latter casep if it is assumed that the luminescence of
hydrogen takos place at a height of 100 kmt the zone of simultaneous proton
penetration has a width of not less than 20OOkm. 4drogen radiation inay be
detected both on magnetically disturbed and quiet days. However, the sta-
tistical.analysis of instances of the appearanc e of H 0( testifies to the
fact that the probability of observing 1~, rises with the intensification
of the degree of magneetic disturbances. It is possible very often to ob-
serve the displacement of the region of hydrogen anission from north to
south and vice-versa which conforms to definite patterns. Movement from
the, -north and south I to*ardz the zenith causes the irc rease in the magnetic

horizon induces its decrease. Thus, the passage of the region of hydrogen
emission across the zenith is usually accompanied by a positive bay. . The
-presence of hydrogen emission in quiescent forms testifies that hydrogen
should be observed at a comparatively t~:anquil timo in the magnetic re..
spect. Me analysis of the observational data enables a number of conclu-
sions to be drawn: (1) A Chief role in the emergence of diffusive forms
of auroral spectra may be played by Drotons--when their velocity does not
exceed 3000 km/sec. and when the probability of the excitation. of the by.,
drogen atons themselves is at a maximum. (2) The recording of H C< at a
quiet time in the magnetic respect shows that at the moment of quantum
luminescence the proton flow does not cause any disturbances in the geomag-
netic. field-.-even when the zone of simultaneous proton penetration is nm
less than 2000 km. (3) The displacement of the region of hydrogen emis.-
sion--simultaneouslyg, too, with the southern boundary of auroras--is not
accompanied by large magnetic disturbances, which testifies to the fact
that the causes responsible for the geomagnetio field's disturbance should
be sought directly in the ionosphere. fAbstraoter's note: Complete

ABSTRACT: The authors make use of I method for determinirg the :radiation intensity
measured with a wide-angle receiver (Dokl. AN SSSR v. 147., no. 5, 1962 and in Aktino-
metriya i optika atmosfery (Actinometry and Atmospheric Optical.. Nauka, 1964) to per-
form an experiment in which they measured the brightness of % narrow white strip
against a uniform dark background, using a radiation receiver having a photocell, with
a field of view of somewhat'larger diameter than the width of the strip. The purpose
of the experiment wra to simulate the reading of a ra'diatio*n'receiver mounted on a
satellite and measuring the thermal radiation from a river whose width is narrower
than the angle subtended by the radiation receiver. The measured brightness distribii-
tion turned out to have a bell-shaped rather than a true rectangular fo=,, and tha4
authors calculate,.the true brightness of the strip from the measured one by a pro"
cedure based on the earlier work. The method Is based essentially on comparing thq,--
coefficients of the Fourier expansion of the true (rectangular) and smoothed (bel.1-4.,i

shaped) distributions. The accuracy of the method is better than 4%., and if the
measurement error does not exceed 1%,, the temperature of the river (which is related
with.the brightness by the Stefan-Boltmmm law) can be determined within VC. Orig.

Abstract The experiments were conducted at a theileriasis infes-

solution twice daily with a 5-6 hours Interval, terramy-
cin was intraveftously injected in a 0.015 g/kg dose in
100-150 ml of distilled water, and biomycin soditm sUt
was intravenously injected in a 3 mg/kg dose (in a 1-2
Percent Solutioll). The preparations were administered in
