ABSTRACT: Measurements were made of the velocity of ultrasonic waves by the resonanc
methoa at frequency -136 kesa The velocity of sound in le4d-borosilicate glasses
first decreases with increasing content of B203, Le.~ the structure of the lead-
borate component becomes stronger and joining together of the silicon-oVgen frame
develoysp after which the velocity decreases " a result, of the transition of the
boron atoms from the triple coordination into the quadrupole coordination. The com,-
pressibility of borate glasses as a function of the B~203 concentration passes through
a rainimum, and that of lead-silicate glass increases smoothly with increasing of lead

and gas content
Periodical Neft. khoz., V. 32, #9, 56-59, S 1954
Abstract The author discus see the correlation between deoxidation
capacity of rocks and oil and gas content. He offers a
method of determination of deoxidation of rock expressed
Institution:
in terms of the oxygen absorbed per unit o. f the rock
weight (OOLVIOO mg of rock). The author also comments
.that P. D. Trask's method (USA) is less effective than
his. The discussion is illustrated by comparative charts
obtained during prospecting with different methods.

ABSTRACTt The necessity to determine the depth of occurrence and the di-
mension of.the anticlineand of the bosses arises very often
during the mapping of,prospecting operations. These bodies
are usually unequally magnetized and of irregular geometric
shape, which does not permit the development of a general
formula. .-The author, assuming that the anticline and its
bosses have an approximately regular geometric shape, devised
a'series of 'formulae to calculate the regularity of distribu-
tion-of the magnotic field in an elliptical paraboloid, a rc-
tative paraboloid and ins parabolic cylinder (to calculate
their Z component). He presents a detailed analysis of these
formulae.. There, are 2 graphs and 2 Soviet references.

ABSTRACT; I.n a previous paper-fRef 2-7, the authors showed that the
study- of-distribution:-cf-a-sutplus or-,deficiency of density
in the subsurface is reduced to the solution of a system of
linear equations. In the present article, the authors con-
sider the Droblem of the precision of the determination of
subsurface surplus masses by the method of grids. They
establish a criterion of precision for determining surplu8
density when it is cons tant for every square of the grid
The problem of the choice.of grid elements and the coordinales
of the selected points is considered in the article from "-ic-
viewDoint of insuring the necessary precision in deter::~ininC

TEn: Results are given of tests in service on an a.c.
induction motor drive controlled by~rectifier-invertor chain
..used to drive centrifugal compressors of the gas pipeline between
StavropoJI and Moscow. In this system the speed of the 4500 kW
wound-rotor induction motor with a rated speed of 1490 r.p.m.
can be changed smoothly.in the range 100!!-70% of rated speed, thus
allowing the.gas compressor.rating to be varied between 100~~ and
35%. The rectifier-invertor~circuit uses a slip frequency
convertor with an explicit d.c. circuit. The uncontrolled
rectifier valves convert the.rotor slip frequency current to d.c.
and the invertor converts the d.c. into power frequency (30 c/s)
asce The inverter valves are grid controlled so that the

invertor e.m.f. can be controlled from the rectified current side,
thus the rotor current,Aorque and.motor speeds. The rotor and
invertor valves are mercury-arc rectifiers type -loou x 6
Opm-iowx 6).. With the.-rectifier-convertor circuit the VI
Utilization of the motor~is_.not impaired so that its rating can
bechosen by the usual methods.. The rectifier-convortor circuit
'tas high efficiency, naraely, 0.92-0.88 within the given speed
control range. A disadvantage of the rectifier-convertor circuit
is the low power factorwhich is o.67 at maximum speed and 0.43
at 701,c' rated speed*- Experimental curves are given for power
factor of the valves and the motor and also curves of the changos
in reactive power consumption of individual parts of the systein
as function of slip. Tests showed that the rectifier-invertor
circuit operates welland-has good control characteristics, the
motor and valves operate reliably, current waveform distortion in
the supply lines to the rectifier is:slight, no influence of
higher harmonics on the operation of other equipment was observed.
Further improvement in the asynchronous rectifier-invertor circuit
presupposes the use of rotor valves controlled by slip frequency

Ahe three-dimensional_body~is equal to that of a two-dimensional

lues too one finds other, intervals. Taking a determined
law of variation of te and ri. one obtains a palette in the plane
_rt - which makes calculation- of, bg possible if sin 8, is given. In_
vestigating (5) - on the. lateral sections x and y one can. determine
the average. values T. and rr, in thc';-r directions. Then it- is pos-
sible to have an idea of the dimeni-:ons of the 3-dimensional ano-

one wishes to have more accurate d~',-.ails one sh-buld use sin 8 an(i
